Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, shares the following message on the occasion of the 84th birthday of Lama Ole Nydahl.

Dear Dharma friends,
Today is the birthday of Lama Ole – an auspicious day that we should all celebrate by calling to mind his example of tireless dedication to the Buddha Dharma. I rejoice in Lama Ole’s great courage and determination, through which he has accumulated tremendous merit, inspiration, and joy over the past many decades.

As I have said on several previous occasions, all of his students should cherish their good fortune in finding such a teacher in this lifetime. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind all of you again that appreciating one’s teacher means not focusing on the person or the form of the teacher but on his or her practice, on his or her essence.

So that’s something all of you need to always keep in mind, and if you do that, then the teacher will always be there with you, beyond all limitations of time and space.

On this auspicious occasion, I would like to ask all students to join me in praying for our dear Lama Ole’s good health and longevity. May his presence continue to bring great benefit to sentient beings.

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, shares the following message on the occasion of the 82nd birthday of Lama Ole Nydahl.

Dear Dharma friends,
Today we celebrate a special and joyous occasion: the 82nd birthday of our dear Lama Ole, whose tremendous courage and perseverance are an example to all of us.
For more than 50 years now, Lama Ole has made the Buddha Dharma accessible to countless people around the world, by offering the Buddhist refuge to tens of thousands of individuals and leading innumerable Dharma courses. Over the course of these 50 years, he has established more than 640 Karma Kagyu centres all over the world, which have served as access points to the Buddha Dharma.

This precious activity has accumulated immeasurable joy and merit, and has been of vast benefit for both our Karma Kagyu lineage and countless sentient beings.

I rejoice in Lama Ole’s Dharma activity and offer my prayers to the precious golden garland of the Karma Kagyu lineage masters to bless and protect Lama Ole, and I invite all of my students to join me in these prayers.

Last but not least, I look forward to finally seeing Lama Ole and many of you again this summer, to share and practice the precious Buddha Dharma together.

"It may feel as though we are living in an increasingly dangerous and scary world. It is true, that many people face the daily reality of war and violent conflict. For most of us, though, this negative impression flows from the news that we see on our screens or read in the newspapers. While it is important to be aware of what is happening around the world, when we constantly consume violence and fear, there is a risk that it can consume us.
When we look up from our screens, and take time to meditate on the nature of our mind, we may see a very different world. A world of hope. A world of loving kindness and compassion. Most importantly, we are able to calm our minds, respond with wisdom, and not react with anger or other afflictive emotions."

The 365 Tour is the continuation of Lama Ole and Hannah's world teaching tours around the world. For 40 years, they traveled tirelessly around the world meeting students, giving teachings, setting up centres and connecting with people, which resulted in about 650 Diamond Way centres & groups set up around the world.

It is in our Vajrayana tradition to travel to get precious teachings, and meet with friends and sangha around the world! Whilst Lama Ole is no longer traveling as he did before, we are continuing with this tradition. In February and March 2023, the 365 Tour is coming to New Zealand and Australia!

The theme of this tour is the History of Diamond Way in Australia. In Perth, we will have panel teachings, meditation and spend time together from Monday 6 - Sunday 12 March.
