Here are a short summary of our sermon from Sunday, 16 November at Hua Hin Full Gospel Church Hua Hin.
Jesus Gives Strength
We focused on the story in John 5:1–15, where Jesus heals a man who had been an invalid for 38 years at the Pool of Bethesda.
The pool was surrounded by sick and disabled people who believed a local myth that the first to enter the water when it bubbled would be healed. Among them was a man who had suffered for nearly four decades. Jesus focused on this man, who:
Had no strength - He couldn’t get himself into the water.
Had no hope - He believed healing was impossible because no one could help him.
Had no faith - He didn’t even know who Jesus was, even after being healed.
The man's life represents people today who feel stuck, disappointed, or unable to change their situation.
Jesus asked, "Do you want to be healed?"
Rather than expressing desire or faith, the man explained why healing was impossible for him. The message for today stresses that Jesus was not seeking cooperation or effort from the man. Jesus was revealing that human inability does not limit divine power.
Jesus commanded: "Get up, take up your bed, and walk." With that command, He instantly gave the man strength he never had, ability he could not produce, a future he could not imagine. Jesus does not wait for us to generate faith, strength, or hope. What Jesus commands, He also supplies.
Just as Israel wandered for 38 years in the wilderness—weak, faithless, and unable to enter the Promised Land the man had been stuck 38 years. The law showed the standard but could not give power to fulfill it. Jesus, however forgives past sins, gives power for new obedience, creates faith where there is none.
Grace comes through Jesus Christ, who gives what God commands.
Some encouragement pointers:
You don't find strength, hope, or faith within yourself - they come from Jesus. He is able to give strength to the powerless, hope to the hopeless and faith to the faithless
The miracles in John are written so that we may believe in Him and find life in His name.
God bless you all 🙏
