“The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity.”

—Luke 8:14

I’ve always been amazed by w**ds. You can take a little flower, plant it in the perfect location, water it, and make sure that there are no pests to threaten it. You can do everything possible for that flower, and it will slowly grow. But then, in the same amount of time, a w**d can spring up and choke out the flower.

The w**d doesn’t suddenly burst out of the ground, grab the flower, and start shaking it. The process is gradual. First, the w**d appears in the vicinity of the flower. The next day, the w**d grows a little closer. And on it goes until the w**d starts to wrap itself around the flower and choke out its growth.

That is what Jesus was describing in the parable of the sower when He said, “The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity” (Luke 8:14 NLT). The “cares and riches and pleasures of this life” are the w**ds that choke our spiritual growth. As with the w**ds in nature, the process doesn’t happen overnight; it happens over time.

Also, as with w**ds in nature, the “cares and riches and pleasures of life” aren’t always immediately identifiable as w**ds. In fact, the things that prevent the seed of God’s Word from maturing and producing fruit in our lives aren’t necessarily bad things in and of themselves. Some are good things that become the most important things and choke out the spiritual things. They also create distance between us and God.

The picture that Jesus paints in His parable is not one of someone who says they don’t want to pray, read the Bible, or go to church. Rather, it’s someone who thinks those are good things to do. But over time, they start losing interest, and the things of this world become more important to them than the things of the next world. That’s what chokes them out spiritually and causes them to feel distant from God.

It’s essential, then, that we examine our priorities frequently. Not our idealized priorities, the things we say are important to us, but our actual priorities, the things that get the lion’s share of our time, energy, and interest.

Jesus said, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (Luke 12:34 NLT). God wants you to treasure the things that are truly important. The things that will last for eternity. The things that bring genuine joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment. God wants your heart. If you give Him that, He will give more than you can possibly imagine in return.

Reflection Question: How can you make sure that the things of this world don’t choke out the things of God in your life?

Exodus 12:4-14

Yesterday, we were blessed to hear from Pastor Kim, a remarkable Korean woman of God, who reminded us of the power of Jesus’ blood. Just as the blood on the doors in the Old Testament protected and set the Israelites free, the blood of Jesus shed on the cross gives us true freedom from sin, fear, and every form of bo***ge. Let us embrace this gift with gratitude and faith, knowing that His blood continues to bring redemption and victory into our lives today.

In her message, Pastor Kim drew a powerful parallel between the blood that was applied to the homes of Israel and the blood of Jesus Christ. She emphasized that just as God’s people were protected and set free in Egypt, we too are liberated through the sacrifice of Christ. The blood of Jesus is not just a symbol—it is the source of spiritual freedom, peace, and triumph over every challenge we face.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” – Romans 1:18
In life we often face moments where we know the truth, yet we feel tempted to ignore it because it is easier, more profitable, or more comfortable. This verse reminds us that when people suppress the truth and choose wrongdoing, it does not go unnoticed by God.
I remember a real situation from a workplace where a group of employees discovered that some reports had been altered to make the business appear more successful than it actually was. Everyone knew the truth, but many stayed silent because they were afraid of losing their jobs or upsetting management. One person finally decided to speak honestly and correct the records. At first it seemed like the hardest decision, but over time that integrity protected the company and restored trust among the team.
Life often places us in similar situations. Sometimes the pressure of society encourages us to ignore what we know is right. Yet choosing truth and righteousness builds character, peace of mind, and a life that honors God.

This verse is not just a warning; it is also a motivation. It reminds us that living with integrity matters. Even when the world rewards shortcuts and dishonesty, choosing truth keeps our hearts aligned with what is right.

Message for today:
Stand for the truth even when it is uncomfortable. Integrity may feel costly in the moment, but it always builds a stronger future.

“Such love has no fear, because perfect love drives out all fear. If we are afraid, it’s often because we fear punishment, revealing that we haven't fully embraced His perfect love. We love one another because He loved us first.”

—1 John 4:18–19

Consider the story of a thief who broke into a house. As he searched in the dark with his flashlight, he suddenly heard a voice say, “Jesus is watching you!” Startled, he looked around, wondering where it came from. Again, he heard it: “Jesus is watching you!” Fear gripped him until he spotted a parrot. The thief chuckled, but then noticed a large Doberman at the parrot’s feet, baring its teeth. The parrot looked down and said, “Go get them, Jesus.”

While this is a humorous tale, it highlights a serious truth: many people mistakenly believe that God is out to get them or, at the very least, that He stands against them. This is a lie—a tactic of our spiritual adversary. Jesus reminds us, “You are children of your father the devil... He was a murderer from the beginning... When he lies, it’s consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44 NLT).

The idea that God is against us is an audacious falsehood meant to keep us distant from Him. It contradicts one of Scripture's most profound truths: “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NLT).

God demonstrated His immense love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8 NLT). “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins” (1 John 4:10 NLT).

If God were truly against us, why would He show such love and make such sacrifices?

Many Christians describe their conversion as “the day I found the Lord,” but the reality is, He wasn’t lost—we were. God found us long before we sought Him out. He chose us before we chose Him, like a shepherd searching for a lost sheep.

In truth, no one is more for us than the Lord. Embrace His perfect love and let it cast out all fear. You are cherished, chosen, and profoundly loved.

Just like Moses leading the Israelites through the wilderness, guide us with wisdom and strength toward a future filled with hope and purpose. Moses was chosen by God to lead His people to the promised land, our spiritual parents have been chosen to shepherd us with grace, teaching us to trust in God's plan and to walk in faith.

At God At work church we are reminded daily of their sacrifices, their prayers, and their unwavering commitment to our spiritual growth.

We thank God for blessing us with such loving and faithful leaders. May we continue to grow in faith, love, and service under their guidance."

The Lamb Sacrifice (Good Friday) is around the corner

"Reflecting on the ultimate sacrifice, as we remember the depth of His love this Good Friday."

In His final hours, He displayed an incredible act of grace, praying for those who crucified Him: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34).

This powerful moment reminds us that forgiveness and love are at the heart of the Christian faith. We are called to reflect on this example of selflessness and extend grace to others in our own lives, just as Christ did for us. May this Good Friday inspire us to live in love, humility, and faith. 🙏
