Keep the ELCSS/S Sudan Diocese and especially the people of Nuba Mountains in your prayers. Thousands of residents have been displaced into the mountains, many have lost their family members, women and the elderly are starving to death. Children are dying daily due to hunger and lack of medicine. The cause of all these is the ongoing tribal war in the region. We thank God for the faithful service of Bishop Musa Alabina and his pastors who continue to minster to these suffering people. We are calling upon all people, friends and partners to assist the people of Nuba Mountains. If you would like to help in any way, let us know. LORD have mercy, Christ have mercy, LORD have mercy! Amen.

At the Ash Wednesday service held at St. Paul's Cathedral Yambio, the Principal of our seminary (CLIHM) Rev. Nicholas Kumbo Louis and his staff were installed, the new seminary vehicle was dedicated, and St. Luke medical Clinic was re-opned with Dr. Thomas Apuluku as the head doctor. Thanks be to God!

A new class begins at Concordia Lutheran Institute for the Holy Minstry, a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Sudan and Sudan based in Yambio. Keep these men in your prayers as they begin their theological studies as well as the staff who will be teaching and taking care of them. Not too many 90-year-olds still clock in at the office every day, never mind take transnational and even international trips to connect with mission supporters and church leaders! But God has blessed Rev. Rahn with the energy and health to continue vigorous service as he continues in this mission of translating and publishing the good books of our Lutheran faith for churches and people around the world.

In honor of this momentous occasion, LHF is taking on a large project that harkens back to Rev. Rahn's early days in Russia: a reprint of the Study Bible with Commentary in the Russian language -- an especially fitting project since 2026 also marks the 450th anniversary of Lutheranism in Russia and the 150th anniversary of Synodal Bible translation in the Russian language.

LHF plans to print 3,000 copies for Lutherans in Russia at an anticipated cost of $17 per copy (approximately $50,000 total). The Self-Study Bible includes verse-by-verse commentary, essays introducing each book, cross-references, and a suggested plan to read the Bible in a year. Although Rev. Rahn’s birthday is in January, donations will be taken for this project throughout 2026.

Are you an LCMS pastor (or pastor in an LCMS partner church) who's up for an adventure? Concordia Lutheran Institute for the Holy Ministry (CLIHM) is the seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Sudan/Sudan, and a new class of 25 seminarians is this month starting their studies in preparation for the ministry.

CLIHM instructors are volunteer teachers who travel to South Sudan, typically for 3 weeks at a time, to lead classes on such topics as Dogmatics, Intro to Old Testament and Intro to New Testament, Law & Gospel, etc. A volunteer teacher (not necessarily a pastor) is also needed for Remedial English.
