*Thoughts on Christian Unity*

In Wesley's time, as in all ages of the church's history, men of different gifts performed their appointed work. They did not harmonize upon every point of doctrine, but all were moved by the Spirit of God, and united in the absorbing aim to win souls to Christ. The differences between Whitefield and the Wesleys threatened at one time to create alienation; but as they learned meekness in the school of Christ, mutual forbearance and charity reconciled them. They had no time to dispute, while error and iniquity were teeming everywhere, and sinners were going down to ruin. {GC 257.3}

One man may be conversant with the Scriptures, and some particular portion of the Scripture may be especially appreciated by him; another sees another portion as very important, and thus one may present one point, and another, another point, and both may be of highest value. This is all in the order of God. But if a man makes a mistake in his interpretation of some portion of the Scripture, shall this cause diversity and disunion? God forbid. We cannot then take a position that the unity of the church consists in viewing every text of Scripture in the very same light. The church may pass resolution upon resolution to put down all disagreement of opinions, but we cannot force the mind and will, and thus root out disagreement. These resolutions may conceal the discord, but they cannot quench it and establish perfect agreement. Nothing can perfect unity in the church but the spirit of Christlike forbearance. Satan can sow discord; Christ alone can harmonize the disagreeing elements. Then let every soul sit down in Christ's school and learn of Christ, who declares Himself to be meek and lowly of heart. Christ says that if we learn of Him, worries will cease and we shall find rest to our souls. {11MR 266.1}

*FOOD FOR THOUGHT*

The refreshing or power of God comes only on those who have prepared themselves for it by doing the work which God bids them, namely, cleansing themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.—Testimonies for the Church 1:619, 1867

We are not to think that the chosen ones of God who are trying to walk in the light compose Babylon. *The fallen denominational churches are Babylon* . *Babylon has been fostering poisonous doctrines, the wine of error* (Rev18:1-3). This *wine of error is made up of false doctrines, such as ¹the natural immortality of the soul, ²the eternal torment of the wicked, ³the denial of the pre-existence of Christ prior to His birth in Bethlehem, and ⁴advocating and exalting the first day of the week above God’s holy and sanctified day. ⁵These and kindred errors are presented to the world by the various churches* , and thus the Scriptures are fulfilled that say, ‘For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.’ It is *a wrath which is created by false doctrines, and when kings and presidents drink this wine of the wrath of her fornication (church and state union), they are stirred with anger against those who will not come into harmony with the false and satanic heresies which exalt the false sabbath, and lead men to trample underfoot God’s memorial* . John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

*Introduction*: What is the reward of the Saints? What will we receive
for following the Son of God?

*Question 1*. Mortal life was given at the Creation in Genesis 1. Who is the source of all mortal life that we see on earth? Acts 17:24-25

Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

[25] Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

*Question 2*. Who is declared to be the author of life? Psalm 36:5, 9.

Psalms 36:5 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

[9]For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

*Question 3*. How does Jesus relate life to Himself? Is Jesus speaking of mortal life or eternal life? John 6:35.

John 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

*Question 4*. We have eternal life. Where is that life now? Colossians 3:3.

Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

*Question 5*. When will this eternal life be granted to the saints? Colossians 3:4.

Today's Happy Sabbath post features a beautiful scene from the country of Greenland. The Seventh-day Adventist Church began mission work in Greenland in the 1950s and built a church and clinic in the capital city of Nuuk. The church and clinic were active there for several decades, but gradually died out. In 1998 the church property was sold and paid pastoral work ended.
