Father Andrea Osman Okello was born on January 1, 1959, in Abulu, Raja, to Natale Osman Okello and Regina Angong Abruko. A member of the Thuri (Shatt) community, he entered the Catholic Church early in life, receiving the Sacrament of Baptism in 1964.
In 1972, he was sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation, administered by Bishop Ireneo Dud. His early education was completed across several regions. He attended primary school at Khor Ghana from 1970 to 1976, followed by intermediate studies at Sopo from 1976 to 1979. He began his secondary education at Bussere, where he studied from 1979 to 1982, and later completed it at Mendi Boys School in Khartoum from 1987 to 1988, successfully earning his Sudan School Certificate.
Discerning a call to the priesthood, Father Okello joined the Comboni Missionaries in 1989. He undertook his philosophical studies in Maadi, Cairo, from 1989 to 1991, before proceeding to Italy for a two-year novitiate. He subsequently moved to Nairobi, Kenya, to begin his theological training at Tangaza University College. Following a period of deep spiritual discernment, he chose to leave the Comboni Society to pursue ministry as a diocesan priest. He returned to Sudan and finalized his theological formation at St. Paul’s Major Seminary in Khartoum, studying there from 1994 to 1999.
On May 6, 2000, Father Okello was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Rumbek by Bishop Caesar Mazzolari during a ceremony held in Rumbek. Following his ordination, his first pastoral assignment was to serve as the Vocations Director for the Diocese of Rumbek. Recognizing his pastoral leadership, Bishop Mazzolari later appointed him as the Parish Priest of Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek in 2005.
Fr. Andrea Osman Okello devoted his life faithfully to the service of God and His people through priestly ministry, prayer, compassion, and dedication to the Church. His witness of faith, humility, and love touched many lives and will remain a lasting inspiration to all who knew him.
