A SEA OF BLUE: SSVP SIERRA LEONE CELEBRATES FOURTH INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Today, Sunday, 16th August 2026, Vincentians from Conferences across Sierra Leone converged at St. Martin de Porres Parish, Blackhall Road, Archdiocese of Freetown, for the celebration of the Fourth Anniversary of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) International Women’s Day in Sierra Leone.

The celebration brought together Vincentians from different Conferences, united in one spirit and beautifully dressed in the Society’s popular blue Africana attire. From the entrance of the church to the sanctuary, blue was everywhere, a powerful expression of identity, unity and solidarity.

The church was filled to capacity, and the atmosphere was electric with joy, fellowship, thanksgiving and celebration. The smiles, songs, greetings and warm embraces among Vincentians captured the true spirit of a Society built on service.

The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Alphonso Carew, Metropolitan Spiritual Advisor of the Society as chief celebrant, alongside Rev. Fr. Chima, CM, National Spiritual Advisor and the host parish priest, Rev. Fr. James Afo CSSp.

The occasion was not merely a colourful gathering; it was a celebration of the remarkable contribution of women to the mission of the Society.

August 14 is officially dedicated by the SSVP to recognising the historical and present-day importance of its female members, who constitute approximately 60% of the Society’s global network. The International Women’s Day therefore provides an opportunity to honour the countless women who have served and continue to serve tirelessly through Conferences, bringing hope, dignity, compassion and practical charity to people in need.

As Sierra Leone celebrates the fourth anniversary of this important observance, we remember with gratitude all Vincentian women, those who came before us, those serving today, and those who will carry the mission forward tomorrow.

From the beautiful blue attire to the packed church, from the Eucharistic celebration to the reunion afterwards, today was truly a memorable day for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Sierra Leone.

EIGHT YEARS OF FAITHFUL PRIESTHOOD: SSVP Eastern Region Celebrates Rev. Fr. Chima’s Inspiring Mission

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) Eastern Region joins the National Council and the entire Vincentian family in Sierra Leone in joyfully congratulating our National Spiritual Adviser, Rev. Fr. Chimaobi Christian Elemuo, C.M., on the occasion of his 8th Priestly Anniversary.

Ordained to the sacred priesthood on 13th July 2018, Fr. Chima has remained a dedicated Vincentian missionary whose ministry continues to inspire hope, strengthen faith, and rekindle the Church’s preferential love for the poor.

His missionary journey brought him to Sierra Leone in 2020, where his remarkable pastoral commitment, particularly his willingness to learn the Mende language and celebrate the Holy Mass in the local tongue, won the admiration of the faithful and deepened evangelization in St. Columba’s Parish, Moyamba.

Since his appointment in 2023 as National Spiritual Adviser of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Sierra Leone, Fr. Chima has provided unwavering spiritual guidance that has contributed to the growth of the Society and renewed commitment to the Vincentian mission of serving Christ in the poor. His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening the Society’s presence and outreach across the country.

As an Eastern Region, we thank God for the gift of your priesthood, your humility, missionary zeal, and fatherly accompaniment. Your life continues to reflect the Vincentian ideals of charity, compassion, and selfless. May the Good Lord continue to bless your priestly ministry with abundant grace, good health, wisdom, and many more fruitful years in the service of God and humanity.

VINCENTIANS BID FAREWELL TO CHIEF MOSES M.K. SANDY IN BO

Vincentian representatives from all three regions of Sierra Leone, together with members of the National Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP), gathered on Friday, 10th July 2026 at St. Pius Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Bo to pay their final respects to the late Chief Moses M.K. Sandy.

The Funeral Mass was chiefly presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Bo, Most Rev. Dr. Charles Campbell, assisted by few other priests.

Until his demise, Chief Sandy served as Regional President of the Southern Region. His dedication, leadership, and contribution to the growth and mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul remain a lasting legacy.

During the Mass, the National President of SSVP Sierra Leone, Sis. Rosamond Sannoh, delivered a moving tribute on behalf of the Society. She noted that Bro. Sandy’s support, passion, and commitment to the Vincentian mission will continue to inspire members across the country.

The large attendance of Vincentians from all parts of Sierra Leone reflected the deep respect and appreciation for his years of faithful service and sacrifice.

May the soul of Chief Bro. Moses M.K. Sandy rest in eternal peace.🙏🏻

Today, we celebrate a remarkable and dedicated Vincentian, Mrs Agnes Naomi Ensah, on the occasion of her birthday.

Mrs Ensah is the Regional President of SSVP East and a former President of the Holy Trinity Conference. Her journey within the Society has been one of unwavering commitment, selfless service, and inspiring leadership.

As Regional President, she has consistently placed the needs of the poor and vulnerable at the heart of her mission. Her passion for charity and her deep Vincentian spirit continue to impact countless lives. Through her guidance, the Society has witnessed growth, unity, and many success stories that reflect true service to humanity.

Her time as President of the Holy Trinity Conference remains a testament to her dedication and strength in leadership. She nurtured the Conference with care, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, discipline, and active service.

Sis. Ensah embodies the true spirit of a Vincentian, humble, caring, and ever ready to serve. Her life continues to inspire both young and old within the Society.

EASTER MONDAY OUTREACH: SHARING THE JOY OF THE RISEN CHRIST THROUGH CHARITY

On Easter Monday, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Trinity Conference carried out a heartfelt outreach, distributing food and non-food items to their clients, mainly the less privileged and the aged.

While part of the distribution took place at the church premises, the team also extended their mission to Nyandeyama community, where they visited two sick Vincentian clients and personally presented items to them, bringing not just support, but comfort and hope.

Traditionally held on Good Friday, this year’s outreach was thoughtfully shifted under the new leadership of Bro. Andrew Batilo Francis, aligning the act of charity with the joy of Christ’s Resurrection, reminding us that the risen Lord calls us to renew love, compassion, and service to others.

Alice is a lovely and lively character. She’s a go getter; very focused, determined and intelligent. She’s dedicated and kind pledging to be at the service of the poor and needy in our church community. Her participation, contributions and commitment to the SSVP of recent times have been remarkable and quite inspiring.

EASTERN REGION HOSTS 14TH NATIONAL COUNCIL BOARD MEETING OF THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

Kenema, Sierra Leone - The National Council Board of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul held its 14th National Council Board Meeting on Saturday, 14th March 2026 at the Holy Family Pre-School Hall, Holy Trinity Parish in Kenema.

This historic meeting marks the first time the Eastern Region has hosted a National Council Board meeting following the adoption of the Society’s rotational hosting system, which allows different regions to take turns in hosting national gatherings.

Participants at the meeting included the National Spiritual Adviser, members of the National Executive, the National Training and Project Officer, Regional Presidents and Secretaries, the Metro President, the National Legal Advisor, the National Youth Officer, and the National Twinning Officer.

The Eastern Region President, Sis Agnes Naomi Ensah, welcomed board members and expressed appreciation to the National Council for bringing the important gathering to the region.

Key discussions during the board meeting centered on preparations for this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in BO, the elections of Conferences and Regions, annual subventions, and reflections on the International SSVP Women’s Day, among other matters aimed at strengthening the mission and service of the Society.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Vincentians across the country to deepen their spiritual growth and charitable service to the poor, in the spirit of their patron, Saint Vincent de Paul.
