Series 8: *why did God use the flood as weapon of mass destruction*

Something happened in the world that was so terrible that it caused God to send a Flood to destroy it. Scripture emphasizes rampant sin that was on the earth was the cause for the judgment. Genesis 6:5 *"The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time."* From this verse we can safely deduce the following:
1. *CORRUPTION OF THE HUMAN RACE*
It is argued that the sons of God marrying the daughters of men was the cause for the Flood. Those holding the angelic interpretation of the sons of God argue that only something so terrible as angelic interaction with humanity could be the cause for the Flood. This is one possible interpretation of the text.

2. *RULERS DEMANDED WORSHIP*
The kings of the earth had corrupted themselves to the point that they were claiming to be half-god and half man. These so-called offspring of the gods were worshipped by their people. The entire earth became corrupt to the place where God had to destroy it with a Flood. In the New Testament Noah is called a righteous man in contrast to the rest of humanity.
*"By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith"* _(Hebrews 11:7)._

3. INCREASE OF WICKEDNESS
Scripture makes a tremendous emphasis on sin as the cause of the Flood. Humankind was multiplying and people were making decisions on marrying based upon fleshly choice rather than the will of God.
Furthermore, the Bible clearly says wickedness increased to the degree that God had no choice but to wipe out all of humanity and start over. The Scripture stresses that humankind's wickedness had come to the place where judgment was necessary. They were not only evil, they were evil continually. There was no shame whatsoever and no desire for godliness.

4. *VIOLENCE*
The idea of violence in this context is more than the unavoidable warfare that arises between human beings. It is the malicious, oppressive violence that anyone would recognize as sinful. This violence or lawlessness arose from too much ease and affluence. These people had everything that they wanted and consequently had to invent new type of distractions. They lived with no thought of God or their fellow man. This cruel way of life, where evil was continually on their minds, called for the judgment of the Flood..........to be continued. Isaiah 1:18c, *though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool*.
This is about Repentance and Restoration, the promise of God's forgiveness is linked to a willingness to change and be restored to a right relationship with God. Our father assured us that despite the severity of our sins, He still offers us mercy and grace to demonstrate His enduring love for us. Therefore we should not delay any longer for the time is now.

This is about forgiveness and cleansing as God promise to forgive sins, even those that appear deep and in-most being, therefore let us grasp this opportunity.

This demonstrates God's desire for dialogue and reconciliation with His people. Since we are called by His name, "Christians", therefore we are His people.

I pray with you today: *A Prayer for New Beginnings*

Dear Lord Jesus,
As we step into this new month, we are reminded that You make all things new *(Revelation 21:5 says: He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” ).* Therefore Lord Jesus, we thank You for the opportunity to begin afresh and to embrace the new beginnings that You offer.

We humbly ask for Your grace and strength to let go of the past and to press on toward the future that You have prepared for us. Apostle Paul gave us a strengthening statement in *(Philippians 3:13-14 saying: Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus).* For this reason O Lord, please Help us to release any burdens, regrets, or failures that may be holding us back, and to walk in the freedom and hope that You provide.

O Lord, we pray for new opportunities and experiences this month. Open doors that need to be opened and close doors that need to be closed. Lead us into Your perfect will and help us to trust in Your timing and plan.
In Jesus mighty name, Amen, Amen and Amen.

A LIVE TESTIMONY TO HIS LORDSHIP THE BISHOP BENJAMIN B BANGURA ON THE OCCASION OF YOUR 60TH BIRTHDAY.

You have made us to know that easier is to live in focusing on your goals and in achieving them than in focusing on the distraction schemes put in by the opposer. You never allowed the challenges you faced in life to weigh you down but rather used those challenges to achieve your goals in life. Where can I compare you in scripture? Oh yes! In the holy book of Daniel, I saw the character of prophet Daniel in you: A man of self disciplined with a humble beginnings. You put lots of effort in training and learning skills to survive.

Born in Freetown on 29th August 1964 to Mr and Mrs Abu Bangura somewhere at Taylor street, Kissy. You entered the Albert Academy School in 1977 where you acquired your Secondary School Education. In 1982 you enrolled for the Motor Vehicle engineering course at the Freetown Technical Institute and completed your studies with a Technician Certificate from City & Guilds of London Institute. You continued with the same Freetown Technical Institute in 1986 for a training in General course of engineering, again you completed with a City & Guilds Technician Certificate part 2. You did not settle for these two certification but rather proceeded further to undergo a training in mechanical and electrical engineering for the third time with the same Freetown Technical Institute in 1997 and completed in 2000 with a Technician Diploma from City & Guilds of London Institute. You showed to us that perseverance and commitment is a key tool to achieving goals.

Armed with those academic prowess and technical knowledge of well over 9 years of training, you now turned to seek for employment which you got and worked for the National Confectionery Company (NATCO) as Technician and Machine operator until 2001 including a short spell at the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited. Oh yes! You trained as a Engineering Technician and you ventured into the engineering and technology world, proving your training worth.

You made a decisive choice in 2001 to divert all your efforts in learning to a more profitable calling of the Lord Jesus Christ. You heeded to His call and enrolled at The Evangelical College of Theology (TECT), for the training in Christian ministries. In 2002 after graduating with a Diploma in Christian Ministries, you proceeded to study at the same college with a Bachelor's degree in Ministries. In 2006, you proceeded further with your postgraduate studies in Adult Education and graduated with a master's degree; a post graduate Diploma in Education and a 2nd Master's degree in Religious Education from the University of Sierra Leone (USL) between 2006 and 2020. You trained for what you have become today making you a fit comparation to the prophet Daniel in the holy Bible.

You did not settle for all of that, but rather continued with your training and academic pursuit. Currently you are a PHD student at Africa International University of Kenya, pursuing a PHD in Education. Oh, what a life worth emulating! From your humble beginnings to where you are today teaches us a great deal of lessons.

In the course of time to date you have served and still serving in many capacities within the Pentecostal Mission ranging from Youth leader of Steps to Christ Youth fellowship, Sunday school superintendent, pastor, ordained clergy, Secretary to conference, Director of Evangelism, Zonal Superintendent, Deputy General Superintendent and the current Bishop. You have also served the community in valuable capacities of principal at the useful hands Institute, Estate officer, lecturer, examination officer, and Board member at TECT/USL. Chairman board of trustees at life by design. Oh, what a life worth emulating! We stand with you today as you mark your 60th birthday to give thanks to God Almighty for a meaningful life. I believe, God Almighty rejoices over the manner you are living the life He gave you. Happy birthday Sir.

In conclusion, I must let you know that you have won my heart to accept you as my mentor. In my lonely Conner I consider you my role model. I have never written a biography of anyone other than yours. As you aged with grace, please know that you have me here guided by your life and leadership styles. Keep on inspiring me. Happy birthday to you my Bishop and all of us say happy birthday. Hallelujah. Amen.
