Distribution and Training on the Use of Reusable Sanitary Pads

The Adolescent Girls Empowerment Initiative recently organized a training session for its 150 beneficiaries in Blama on the proper use and maintenance of reusable sanitary pads. These supplies were procured from Uman Tok Organization in Freetown, a reputable women-led enterprise specializing in the production of safe, affordable and environmentally friendly sanitary materials.

This intervention directly addresses the persistent stigma and misconceptions surrounding menstruation, which continue to hinder many adolescent girls especially in rural communities, from fully accessing education. Prior to the project, most beneficiaries could not afford disposable sanitary pads due to financial constraints within their households. As a result, many girls missed up to a week of school each month to avoid embarrassment or stigma from peers, while others resorted to using unhygienic materials that exposed them to infections.

By integrating menstrual hygiene support into the project framework, we aim to restore dignity, boost confidence and ensure consistent school attendance among our girls. The training also equipped participants with essential knowledge on hygiene, care and the safe use of reusable products, empowering them to manage their menstrual health with confidence.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our partners and donors—Misean Cara, ERD, CBERT, CSTWF, and Edmund Rice English Schools for their continued support in making this initiative possible. Your contributions are helping to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for adolescent girls.

We are equally grateful to Uman Tok Organization for providing high-quality materials at an affordable cost, and to Nurse Hannah Berewa for her professional facilitation of the training.

Together, we are breaking barriers, restoring dignity and keeping girls in school.

OFFICE UPDATE

Work of Our Hands Project – Bo

The Work of Our Hands Project in Bo, implemented by CBDO, successfully graduated 52 beneficiaries on Saturday 31st January 2026 with generous support from Edmund Rice Development, Edmund Rice English Schools and Br. Ray Weston. It was a truly inspiring celebration, marked by joy, gratitude and a strong sense of achievement.

The graduation ceremony attracted hundreds of supporters, including representatives from NGOs, government line ministries, technical and vocational institutions, religious leaders and community stakeholders, all gathered to celebrate the resilience and determination of our sisters. These women have defied the odds and are now strategically positioned to participate meaningfully in the labour market.

The event was further enriched by powerful testimonies from graduating beneficiaries, government representatives, and past students who previously benefited from the enduring generosity and vision of the Brothers.

Women Farmers’ Initiative – Mabureh

Meanwhile, in Mabureh, women farmers ably supported by their sons and husbands continued the weeding exercise for the second consecutive weekend. Their commitment reflects strong family and community ownership of the initiative and reinforces sustainable agricultural practice at the grassroots.

At CBDO, quality and consistency in delivery remain our watchwords as we continue to empower women, strengthen communities and build pathways to dignity and self-reliance.

Office Update!!!

Activity: Adolescent Girls Empowerment Initiative Project Sensitization Exercise on Teenage Pregnancy at Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School, Blama.

Today, 25th January 2026, members of the Steering Committee along with school club members and Blama Health Center Team conducted a sensitization exercise for students and staff of Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School in Blama, a partner school under the project.

The sensitization focused on teenage pregnancy, a persistent challenge within Small Bo Chiefdom. While the project has recorded notable success in reducing the incidence of teenage pregnancy in targeted communities, cases continue to emerge in surrounding areas. Those most affected remain school-going children at both primary and secondary school levels, posing a serious threat to education retention and overall child development.

Through interactive discussions and awareness-raising, the team sensitized the students and staff on the causes, consequences and prevention of teenage pregnancy, with particular emphasis on safeguarding the rights, wellbeing and future of adolescent girls.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Steering Committee members, AGEI school club members and Blama Health Center Team for their unwavering dedication and commitment. Their efforts continue to contribute significantly to creating a safe, supportive and conducive learning environment for children in Small Bo Chiefdom especially girls, while complementing the Government’s efforts toward advancing human capital development. We also remain grateful to our funding partners- Misean Cara, Edmund Rice Development, Edmund Rice English Schools and Cbert for their ongoing financial support towards the project.
