Bishop Thomas Wilson Inaugurates St. James Church Men’s Union In Port Loko As Member Of The Diocesan Men’s Union.

By Frank Cole-DMU PRO

His Lordship Rt. Rev. Thomas A.I Wilson Bishop of the Anglican Dioceses of Freetown and the North has on Sunday 5th May 2019, officially inaugurated the Men’s Union branch of St. James Church situated at Falaba Road in Port Loko northern Sierra Leone, as member of the Diocesan Men’s Union (DMU).
Bishop Thomas A.I Wilson during the inauguration reminded members of the newly formed St. James Men’s Union that the main reason why people join church organizations is because it is a platform to do God’s works the more.
He noted each Anglican Church in Sierra Leone has about four or five organizations with the Diocesan Men’s Union (DMU) one of the chief amongst them.
Delivering his sermon on the theme: “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity…Ps 133 v3,” His Lordship Bishop Thomas A.I Wilson said harmony and unity is like the anointing oil.
“One thing unity does is it brings holistic blessings,” said he.
The preacher admonished officers and members of the newly inaugurated St. James Men’s Union to work as a team; disagree to agree since no one man has the union and that everybody is important.
Bishop Thomas A.I Wilson referenced 1st Corinthians Chapters 10, 12 and 13 from the Holy Bible to illustrate vividly unity in diversity as well as unity and diversity in the one body, which is the body of Christ.
He encouraged members of St. James Men’s Union to be attending meetings and thanksgiving services because: “it is during meetings you exchange ideas while you fellowship and learn from attending thanksgiving services.”
Meanwhile, a total number of eleven ‘Brothers’ including four officials were inducted during the service which many say was successful.

Diocesan Men’s Union Ends 20th Anniversary Celebrations With Thanksgiving Service & Induction Of New Officers

By Frank Cole-PRO (DMU)

Members of the Diocesan Men’s Union (DMU) of the Freetown Anglican Dioceses on Sunday 21st October 2018, climaxed their 20th Anniversary Celebrations with a grand thanksgiving service and induction of new officers to run the affairs of the union for the next 12 months, at the Church Of The Holy Trinity at Kissy Road East of the capital city Freetown.
This follows a procession of the various churches under the union, from the DMU headquarters at the Bishop Johnson Memorial School Fourah Bay Road to the church, led by the Grammar School Brass Band.
Delivering his sermon on the theme: “Brethren be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men,” from (1st Corinthians 14:20), the preacher Rev. Chief Gbonkowai D. M Speck a retired General Superintendent of the West Africa Methodist Church, told members of the incoming executive that time was not in their favor.
“Therefore, whatsoever thy hands find to do, do it now,” Rev. Chief Gbonkowai D. M Speck advised.
The preacher cited St. Marks 2: 1-5, to clearly explain the meaning of the word ‘understanding,’ with specific reference to Proverbs 17:27.
Rev. Chief Gbonkowai D. M Speck noted further there would always be a gap and that somebody must fill that gap by demonstrating willingness, commitment to the task, making sacrifices, taking risks, demonstrating God’s morals, perseverance and cooperation, oneness, concerted efforts, and humility to achieve set goals.
“But all these can only be achieved if we all swallow our prides,” he warned.
The preacher concluded by admonishing the ‘Brothers’ to avoid backstabbing, double standards, grumbling and murmuring and, false pretences citing Romans 16: 17.
Prior to the Great Thanksgiving Service, officers and members of the DMU on Saturday 20th October 2018, visited the King George VI Memorial Home at Grafton, where they presented a cash sum of One Million and Three Hundred Thousand Leones plus some assorted items including clothes, a bag of rice and some household utensils.
The former DMU President Bro. Morlai Kamara before presenting the cash and assorted items described the union’s visit as a ‘fact-finding-mission,’ and promised to take the messages of the proprietress and inmates to the rest of the membership.
Receiving the cash and assorted items, King George VI Memorial Home proprietress Hannah Deen said: “it is the only care home in Sierra Leone,” and praised the staff that she described as ‘Angels’ because: “it is very difficult to care for the aged/elderly.”
Hannah Deen thanked the DMU for the donations and appealed to the members to always have them in their hearts.
Meanwhile, the hoisting of the Country and DMU flags respectively at the union’s headquarters at Bishop Johnson Memorial School on Fourah Bay Road on Wednesday 17th October, and followed by a Revival on Friday 19th October 2018, sparked off the DMU 20th Anniversary celebrations.
