Our temple commenced operations on the 1st day of the 2nd lunar month (农历二月初一) in 1997 with just two very young mediums, known as 嶽封白沙大爺壇, supported by three family members and a few friends. It was not all rosy when we first started due to the following reasons :
1) It is located in a young estate (then) in Pasir Ris. Hence, very few residents were supportive of the temple's activities;
2) Unli
ke most temples, our members are all young, including the mediums (the oldest at the time was only in his early 20s). Nobody believed that we were into serious business and hardly anyone trusted us. We went through a lot to gain the trust of our devotees;
3) None of our members joined with prior experience in any temple. So we had to learn from ground zero. But it was also an advantage as we were under the direct guidance of the Deities. The road was tough but we have managed so far. Currently, we have one medium and a total of 10 core members supporting the weekly operations of the temple, and many more sub-committee members to assist in the running of our annual celebration. Due to old age and poor health of our temple owner, we have no choice but to relocate on 6th June 2015, 20th day of the 4th lunar month (农历四月二十日) from Blk 517 Pasir Ris Street 52 to 6 Yishun Industrial Street 1 #08-05 North View Bizhub Singapore (768090) after 18 years of operations in Pasir Ris. As explained by our 大爺伯, our relocation is considered an upgrade from a 神壇 (shrine) to a 庙 or to be exact considered a 半庙 (an industrial unit for temple usage). As 大爺伯 is an underworld Deity (阴神) with low ranks, he does not have the authority to have a temple (庙) in his name. Hence we revised our temple name from 嶽封白沙大爺壇 to 嶽封白阴殿 upon relocation. Our main Deity, 清溪显佑伯主 (the high ranking City God) continue to govern our temple, while 大二爺伯 carry on to be our 办公神.
嶽封白阴殿 was renamed by 大爷伯 for the following reasons:
"白" (white) signifies "白沙" (Chinese for Pasir Ris), which is where our temple originated as well as representing the white robe 大爺伯 wears. This constitutes to him being the Deity who started 嶽封白沙大爺壇. "阴殿" (underworld temple) signifies we are a full fledged underworld temple (正阴庙) governed by an underworld Deity, 清溪显佑伯主.
