Report : 2025 South East Asia Fellowship Weekend

Now in its third year, the South-East Asia Christadelphian Fellowship Weekend was held from 18–20 October at the Flamingo Hotel, Penang. Hosted by the Singapore Ecclesia and Christadelphian Ecclesia Kuala Lumpur (CEKL), 38 adults, teenagers and children gathered together from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, Australia, and Canada, to worship together, study Gods word and form new bonds of fellowship and friendship.

Bro. Julius Bumadilla (The Philippines) led four studies on “As the days of Noah were,” exploring the circumstances before, during, and after the Flood and their relevance today. His WNCC framework - Wants, Needs, Choice, Commitment - gave practical lessons that we can carry into our daily discipleship.

This year’s weekend emphasized youth engagement. With generous support from the ACBM (Victoria), six young brothers and sisters from the Philippines attended, joining four young people from Singapore and one from KL. The Saturday C*C night energized the whole group, both the young and the young at heart!

With financial assistance from the Singapore Ecclesia, two brethren from Solo, Indonesia (Bro. Kim and Bro. Valent) attended their first overseas Christadelphian gathering. The weekend opened meaningful connections across borders and set the stage God willing for more shared attendance at future conferences and camps.

We gratefully acknowledge the kindness of the Williamsburg Christadelphian Foundation and the Gold Coast and Hyde Park Ecclesias (Australia) for their financial support. Singapore and CEKL are small Ecclesias with limited means, so this contribution and partnership is a blessing.

God willing, the next SE Asia Fellowship Weekend will return to Penang on 8 - 10 August 2026. This aligns with the China and Taiwan school holidays and so we look forward to welcoming our brethren and sisters from those regions once again.

If our saviour remains absent, we warmly invite you to join us in Penang in 2026. For details, contact Graham Edwards (Singapore) at [email protected] or Mike Thompson (Kuala Lumpur) at [email protected].

To God be the glory!

Have you ever had someone you’ve spoken to many times but never met in person? It’s like the old idea of a pen pal—writing letters to someone far away. Today, it’s common with online meetings, messages, or Zoom calls. My wife and I recently met a couple we had only spoken to online, and it was so refreshing to speak face to face. For believers, this moment is coming for all of us. One day, we will meet someone we’ve spoken to hundreds of times—Jesus. In John 14:3 He promises, “I will come back and take you to be with me,” a powerful reminder that our Lord will return, and we will finally see Him in person. Every prayer, every word spoken to Him, is building toward that moment. Keep speaking to Him, keep praying—because when He returns, that first face-to-face moment will be more joyful than we can imagine. Open Bible - https://bit.ly/Joh14v3 (Jean-Luc H)

Most people think super powers belong in comic books or movies. But God offers His children super powers that far surpass anything on screen. “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3). What does this power include? It includes love—“God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5). It includes wisdom—“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5). It includes peace—“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). These are not fictional powers. They are real and powerful gifts, given to us through Christ. A life rooted in God’s divine power, filled with love, wisdom, and peace—this is the true super powered life. Good Friday. The day Jesus died a terrible death. I don’t understand. There’s nothing good in suffering. There’s nothing good in death. But maybe that’s because I see things from my view. Maybe I only see the now. Maybe I only see the visible. Yet Jesus saw beyond. Jesus saw the invisible. “Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame” (Hebrews 12:2). He saw the joy beyond the now. He saw the good beyond the visible. He saw eternity. He saw God’s good plan of grace and salvation. Maybe this is the good I often don’t see in my trials, in my struggles. Because “we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (Romans 8:28). Today there is no greater example of this good. Good beyond comprehension. A good that changed the world forever. Suffering that brings salvation. Loss that brings life…forever. Who do you put your trust in? Your wealth, your successful career, the world’s wisdom? The prophet Jeremiah has some powerful words to share on the lives of those who choose to trust God and those who don’t. “This is what the LORD says: ‘Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit’” (Jeremiah 17:5–8). It seems like such an easy, incredible choice to choose God. Yet how many rather choose the misery and wasted life the world offers. Whenever you find yourself drifting from God, consider these verses and the awesome, abundant life God wants to give to those who choose Him. Open Bible - http://bit.ly/Jer17v5-8 (Nicky B)

What does being there for someone else truly mean? The Bible talks about it often, and my favourite verse on this topic is Romans 12:15: “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” Sometimes, when we are around people who are a constant in our lives over many years, it can be hard to celebrate their success without comparing it to our own lives. We may feel envy, bitterness, or disappointment creeping in. That’s why I love this verse—it reminds us of the level of empathy and love we’re called to have for those around us. To truly “be there” for someone means being just as joyful as they are when life is going well, and just as heartbroken when things fall apart. It means carrying no hidden resentment, but rather holding their best interests close to our hearts. This is the kind of selfless love God wants us to embody. It’s not always easy, but it is powerful. Next time your friend or neighbour is celebrating, celebrate with them. And when they’re hurting, don’t hesitate to show up, listen, comfort, and walk with them. That is being there for someone. And that is what love, the kind Christ calls us to, looks like in action. Israel’s story is a parable of our journey to God’s Kingdom. They suffer as slaves in Egypt and God sends Moses to free them. They are saved from certain death as they pass through the Red Sea and the waters crash down, killing Pharaoh’s army. It’s a symbol of our call out of spiritual Egypt—sin—and salvation through baptism (1 Corinthians 10:1-2). They then journey 40 years in the desert, suffering because they don’t trust God to bring them into His promised land. It’s a desert many Christians still wander through because we lack faith in Jesus’s promised rest (Matthew 11:28). But Joshua finally brings them into the land and helps conquer the enemies. Our Joshua—Jesus—does the same for us. Having defeated the ultimate enemy, death, He teaches us to push sin from our lives. Yet the story doesn’t end there. In Judges we read, “These are the nations that the LORD left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan” (Judges 3:1). So though Jesus gives us rest, enemies remain. Temptations still linger. Lusts still call. And like Israel, we must answer the question—will we trust God to drive them out, or accept them and let them reclaim our lives? We were enjoying a run and decided to finish the last kilometre on the beach along the shoreline. Immediately the run felt impossible. The sand was soft and it was difficult to get a foothold. I felt like giving up. My son recommended I run in his footsteps. Immediately I had a grip. He was doing all the hard work. However, if I ran too slowly his footsteps would disappear as the waves washed them away. It was such a powerful spiritual lesson to me. Life without Jesus can often be hard going and tiring like running in soft sand. When we stop following we often lose our way and life becomes difficult. God wants to lead us in the best pathway for our life. We read in Psalms: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye” (Psalm 32:8). Jesus calls us to run the race of life following in His footsteps. He has already done all the hard work for us. He tells us when we come to him he will give us rest. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). Let’s stay in step with Jesus and experience the life of rest and peace Jesus wants to share with all who come to him. Open Bible - https://bit.ly/Psa32v8, http://bit.ly/Mat11v30 (Nicky B)

Walking along the beach recently, I watched a kite surfer take on the huge waves rolling towards him. Though the waves were powerful, the force of the kite enabled him to rise effortlessly above them—at times even soaring through the air. Without the kite, he would have had little control, tossed and pounded by the relentless surf. It made me think: when life’s challenges crash towards us with relentless force, how can we not only endure them but rise above them? The answer is found in connecting to a power greater than ourselves. “Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). What a promise. If we tether ourselves to God, He will not only help us push through life’s challenges but will lift us to new heights on His Spirit wind. Today, whatever waves are crashing around you, trust in Him and experience His power to soar. Open Bible - https://bit.ly/isa40v30-31 (Craig B)
