The Eighth Zhang Tian Shi (Zhang Jiong)
The dates of his birth and death are unknown.

His courtesy name is Yan Chao. As stated in the Lineage, he was accomplished in Taoism at an early age and he was also a handsome man with many virtues.

To supplicants who were devout, he treated them generously no matter what their social statuses were and the prayers were usually answered by immortals.

The emperor once summoned him to the imperial court and asked him about Taoism.

According to the Mirror of the Immortals, on special days, he would set the registers of different ranks of the Perfect Ones out in a tidy chamber and burned joss sticks regularly.

He was greatly revered for his magical skill of healing disease and dispelling evil spirits.
lt was said that the First Qi emperor of the Southern Dynasty once summoned him to the palace and consulted him on Taoist ideas.

He died at the age of ninety. In the thirteenth year of the Zhi Zheng Era of the Yuan Dynasty, he was conferred the title "the Perfect Sovereign of the Jade Purity Who Transforms Himself for the Enlightenment".

一個人有能力，別人可能會欣賞你；
一個人有錢有地位，別人可能會羨慕你；
但真正讓別人願意長久相信你的，是你的人品。

人品好的人，做事有原則，做人有信用，答應別人的事情會盡力做到，得到別人的幫助也懂得感恩。

人生在世，錢可以重新賺，地位可以重新建立，但一旦失去信用和人品，往往很難再挽回。

所以，做人不一定要多成功，但一定要守住自己的良心和底線。

因為能力決定你能走多快，人品才決定你能走多遠。

「Character Is a Person’s Most Valuable Asset」

A person’s abilities may earn admiration.
Wealth and status may earn respect or envy.
But what truly earns lasting trust is character.

A person of good character acts with integrity, keeps their word, takes responsibility for their actions, and appreciates the help and kindness they receive from others.

In life, money can be earned again, and status can be rebuilt. But once trust and integrity are lost, they can be extremely difficult to regain.

You do not have to be the most successful person in the room. What matters is staying true to your principles, maintaining your integrity, and never compromising your values.

Ability may determine how fast you move forward, but character determines how far you will go.

慶讚中元｜地官大帝

中元之名，從何而來？
農曆七月十五日為「中元節」，亦為中元二品地官赦罪清虛大帝（地官大帝）聖誕。

天官、地官、水官合稱「三官大帝」，民間亦稱「三界公」。三官掌理天、地、冥三界，察核眾生善惡，並掌賜福、赦罪、解厄之職。

何謂「地官赦罪」？
地官大帝主掌地界及幽冥，故有「赦罪」之稱。中元之日，民間多以祭祖、超薦亡靈、祈福解厄等方式，表達慎終追遠之心。

道教認為，人的「先天命」源於累世因果，而出生後的一言一行，則形成「後天運」。命有其定，運可由自身修持與行善而轉。

因此，慶讚中元不僅是祭祀，更是敬天地、慎因果、孝祖先、修自身的傳統道教文化精神。

鬼王 甶孑大帝——面燃燒大士與普度公的由來

鬼王甶孑「Fú Jié」大帝，全稱為：
「沃焦山下幽冥教主冥司面然鬼王甶孑大帝」

民間多尊稱為**「大士爺」、「普度公」**，是中元普度民俗信仰中極具代表性的神祇之一。

一、「甶孑」之名與讀音
「甶孑」讀作 fú jié。

其中，「甶」本義與鬼首、鬼形相關；「孑」則有孤獨、獨立之意。
二字合稱「甶孑」，民間信仰中寓有統攝群鬼、為萬鬼之首的象徵意義，因此尊稱為「鬼王」。

二、神格與信仰來源

在道教信仰體系中，「沃焦山下幽冥教主冥司面燃鬼王甶孑大帝」被視為幽冥界的重要神祇，民間則以大士爺、普度公稱之。

部分道教傳承認為，面燃大士乃太乙救苦天尊於幽冥界所示現之威猛法身，具有鎮攝幽冥、統御群鬼及護持普度法會秩序之神格。

而在佛教相關傳說中，「焦面大士」則常被認為與觀世音菩薩的化身或示現有所關聯。

因此，大士爺信仰在華人社會中，亦呈現出道教、佛教與民間信仰相互融合的文化特色。

三、為何中元普度必有大士爺？

傳統中元普度、建醮施食之時，十方孤魂、餓鬼及無祀亡魂皆得以受食。

相傳群鬼聞法受施，容易因爭食而秩序紊亂，因此需要一位具有威猛神格的尊神鎮攝群鬼、維持陰陽秩序。

故此，太乙救苦天尊示現為威猛的鬼王甶孑大帝、面燃大士爺，鎮守普度道場，使眾鬼各安其位、依序受食，令整個普度儀式得以圓滿進行。

四、民間「普度公」信仰

在新加坡及東南亞華人社會，每逢農曆七月中元節期間，許多社區、宮廟及普度場所都可見到大士爺紙像。

大士爺坐鎮普度壇前，不僅象徵鎮攝群鬼、維護法會秩序，亦寄託民眾對於：

消災解厄、祈福納祥、家宅平安、陰陽和順

的美好願望。

因此，「大士爺」並非單純民間所稱的「鬼王」，其背後更承載著華人社會對慈悲救度、陰陽調和、敬天法祖與慎終追遠的深厚文化思想。

Don’t Scatter It Carelessly.

There are only two circumstances in which scattering spirit money may traditionally occur:

1. Funeral processions
During certain funeral rites, joss paper may be scattered along the route as a symbolic offering to appease or clear the way for wandering spirits. This is a specialized element of traditional funeral practice and is not something that ordinary people should imitate casually.

2. Folk practices involving anger, curses, or humiliation
In some folk practices, people may scatter joss paper as an expression of resentment or as part of a curse. Such acts depart from the respectful purpose of traditional offerings and may be considered disrespectful toward both the deceased and the spiritual realm. They may also cause unnecessary trouble in real-life situations.

Honor your ancestors and wandering spirits by burning the offerings properly. Don’t imitate the practice of scattering joss paper simply because you saw it in a movie.

Prepare the appropriate paper offerings, offer them sincerely, and burn them respectfully. That is far more meaningful than theatrical gestures or unnecessary displays.
