As we welcome Awal Muharram 1448H, the blessed Kaabah will once again be adorned with a new Kiswah this Tuesday nightโa beautiful tradition that marks the beginning of a new Islamic year.
For Muslims around the world, this moment is more than a ceremonial change. It is a reminder that just as the covering of the House of Allah is renewed, our hearts too can be renewed.
The Hijri calendar begins with the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ, a journey that teaches us about faith, sacrifice, trust in Allah, and the courage to leave behind what stands between us and His pleasure.
While most of us will never undertake a migration like that of the Prophet ๏ทบ, every Muharram invites us to make a different kind of hijrah:
โ๏ธ A hijrah away from sins we keep postponing repentance for.
โ๏ธ A hijrah away from habits that distance us from Allah.
โ๏ธ A hijrah away from distractions that occupy our hearts more than His remembrance.
The Prophet ๏ทบ said:
"The migrant is the one who abandons what Allah has forbidden." (Bukhari)
As we begin 1448H, perhaps the question is not where we need to go, but what we need to leave behind.
May this new year be a fresh start for all of usโa year of sincere repentance, renewed intentions, beneficial deeds, and greater closeness to Allah (SWT).
