Families make offerings throughout the month, but the

It is the moment when the gates close, and spirits must return. The last offering is not always the largest in scale, but it is one of the most meaningful:
- Ancestors are honored before their return
- Wandering souls are fed so they depart peacefully
- Families close the festival with gratitude, protection, and balance

This day is less about abundance and more about ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง โ€” sending spirits off with dignity and respect.

Every item on the table is symbolic, chosen with care to form a farewell feast of remembrance and compassion:

โ€ข Roasted Duck โ€“ Symbolizes abundance and completeness, a wish for prosperity in both realms
โ€ข Chicken โ€“ Represents family unity and good fortune across generations
โ€ข Roasted Pork โ€“ Linked to wealth, generosity, and celebration
โ€ข Rice โ€“ Lifeโ€™s staple, ensuring spirits return nourished and cared for
โ€ข Sweet Drinks & Cakes โ€“ Represent joy and harmony, sending spirits off with sweetness
โ€ข Alcohol (wine, beer, liquor) โ€“ A farewell toast, extending hospitality to the unseen
โ€ข Ci******es โ€“ A gesture of comfort, ensuring even restless souls leave content

These offerings go beyond ritual. They are acts of ๐ก๐จ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž, ensuring no spirit leaves neglected.

While many prepare offerings at home or temples, some families visit ๐œ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ on the final day:

โ€ข To pay direct respect at ancestorsโ€™ graves
To feed forgotten or lonely souls without descendants
To extend compassion as protection, ensuring no spirit is left behind

This practice reflects the deeper heart of the Hungry Ghost Festival

The Deeper Lesson - -
The last day of the Hungry Ghost Festival is not about fear โ€” it is about ๐œ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž, ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.
When families prepare roasted meats, rice, sweets, drinks, alcohol, and even ci******es, they are making more than offerings. They are symbolically saying:

In return, blessings of ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐œ๐ž, ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ are believed to flow back into the household.

Just as a sacred amulet seals its wicca within, these final offerings seal harmony between the living and the departed.

โœจ The last day may not always be the grandest, but it is one of the most important. It reminds us that how we say farewell matters โ€” for in every ending lies the seed of blessing, protection, and new beginnings.

The 7th Lunar Month, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, is when spirits walk freely among us. ๐Œ๐ข๐-๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐œ๐ซ๐ฎ๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐๐š๐ฒโ€”believed to be when the gates of the spirit world are fully open, making offerings especially important to maintain balance and avoid misfortune.

First respect always goes to the Earth Deity, protector of the land. This opens the way for blessings and ensures the offerings flow smoothly.

Special care is shown with snacks, sweets, and joss paper, placed side by side, recognizing the younger souls who also deserve remembrance.

The fire, the incense smoke, and the glow of candles connect two worlds. By honoring both deity and spirits at mid-month, we show compassion, gratitude, and respect at the very moment it matters most.

Families across Asia prepare offerings of food, incense, and lanterns to honor ancestors and wandering souls.

It is a month of remembrance and caution โ€” many traditions remind us to avoid swimming at night, venturing into lonely places, or making major life decisions during this period.

The Hungry Ghost Festival teaches us balance: respect for the departed, gratitude for our ancestors, and protection for the living.

At ShogunX Amulets, we carry forward this spirit of tradition. Just as lanterns and offerings guide and safeguard, our amulets are crafted as daily companions โ€” subtle reminders of reverence, protection, and the unseen connections that surround us.

๐ŸŒ™ As the Ghost Month begins tomorrow night, take a moment to honor your ancestors, respect the spirits, and walk with mindfulness.

To everyone who participated in Ajarn Tomโ€™s Birthday Wai Kru: Prai Setthi โ€“ The Millionaire Ghost Candle (17 August 2025), thank you for your trust, your prayers, and your faith. Your names, photos, and wishes were handled with care and respect throughout the process.

This year carried a unique sanctity: the ritual was performed at a border temple, inside the cremation hall. In traditional understanding, the cremation hall (เน€เธกเธฃเธธ) symbolizes release, transformation, and renewalโ€”a threshold where old heaviness is laid down so that new fortune and bright momentum can arise. Within that liminal space, every candle was focused on clearing obstacles and opening pathways, with sincere dedication.

The Pakam Rope (เน€เธŠเธทเธญเธเธ›เธฐเธเธณ) is the heart of Kui elephant culture, serving not just as a practical tool but also as a sacred spiritual object. It embodies the power of Phra Khru Pakam, the elephant guardian spirit, and the blessings of ancestors.

Key facts about the Pakam Rope:

Length: 30โ€“40 meters, long enough to lasso a full-grown elephant

Material: Braided from the hides of three buffaloes (both male and female)

Crafting: Made by six skilled mor ajiang, using traditional techniques

Spiritual Care: Fed with offerings of water, whiskey, or red Fanta to honor the spirits

Even today, Pakam Ropes are still crafted to preserve Kui heritage, though they are no longer used for hunting. They are kept in Pakam Shrines (Saan Pakam) and must never touch the ground.

Sacred rules for Pakam Ropes include:

1. Only male family members of the bloodline may handle it.

2. Women traditionally cannot touch the rope.

3. Regular offerings are essential to keep the spirits content.

Through these customs, the Pakam Rope continues to connect the Kui people to their spiritual heritage and their historic bond with elephants.

Thinking of inviting a Prai or Barang amulet into your space? These powerful spirits can bring incredible blessings โ€” but only if approached with respect and understanding.
Here are 5 key things you must know first

Donโ€™t just buy based on looks or hype. Ask your dealer for background info โ€” who made it, what it does, and what spirit is inside. If they canโ€™t answer clearly, walk away.
The best amulets are often the least โ€œprettyโ€ but carry serious power. Know what you're working with.

Every prai carries a unique ghost โ€” Phi Tai Hong, Phi Talai Boon, Hakom, etc. Some bring charm, others revenge or luck. Know their nature and limits. Never work with spirits you donโ€™t understand.

Many prai are made from tragic souls โ€” those who died in betrayal, heartbreak, or violence. Such spirits may not help the dishonest or disrespectful, and might even retaliate. Be sincere, kind, and genuine โ€” and youโ€™ll shall receive their blessings.

Some say prai donโ€™t need offerings โ€” but thatโ€™s only half true. While physical offerings can be optional, merit-making, prayer, or simple respect is not. Spirits are like workers โ€” if you ignore or take them for granted, donโ€™t expect results.

๐Ÿ“. ๐‡๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐š ๐’๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ ๐†๐ฎ๐š๐ซ๐๐ข๐š๐ง ๐š๐ญ ๐‡๐จ๐ฆ๐ž
Ideally, you should at least have 1 main guardian โ€” Buddha, a deity, a high monk, or Lersi โ€” when keeping prai. This acts as spiritual structure and protection. Even if your prai seems obedient, things can shift. A higher figure ensures everything stays balanced and safe.

Donโ€™t rush. Study first. If youโ€™re ready and respectful, a prai spirit can be a powerful ally โ€” but itโ€™s not a toy or casual lucky charm. Do your homework. Connect sincerely. And never treat the unseen world lightly.

Part 1 โ€“ The Kui Tribe : Guardians of Elephants

The Kui people, also known as Guay or Suay, are an indigenous group of northeastern Thailand, especially in Surin, Buriram, and Sisaket provinces, with communities also in Laos and Cambodia. Among them, the Kui Ajiang of Ta Klang Village, Surin, are renowned as โ€œelephant peopleโ€ due to their deep and spiritual connection with elephants.

For centuries, the Kui Ajiang were masters of elephant catching, journeying deep into the Dรขngrรชk Mountains along the Thai-Cambodian border. Led by skilled mor ajiang (elephant doctors), they rode trained elephants armed with the sacred Pakam Rope, a hand-braided buffalo-hide lasso used to capture wild elephants.

Catching an elephant was not just a jobโ€”it was a spiritual calling. Mor ajiang followed strict rituals and used a special forest language called phasa phi pa to communicate with spirits and ensure safety during the hunt. These expeditions could last months, as they moved quietly through the jungle, honoring both the elephants and the spirits of the land.

By the 1950sโ€“1960s, conflicts along the border and modernization led to the end of wild elephant catching, but the cultural traditions and spiritual knowledge of the Kui people remain alive to this day.

Across Southeast Asia, two powerful spiritual festivals emerge around the same time each yearโ€”Thailand ๐’๐š๐ญ ๐“๐ก๐š๐ข ๐…๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ฅ and the ๐‡๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐†๐ก๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐…๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ฅ, celebrated by Chinese communities. One profound example of this cross-cultural reverence for the dead was sponsored and performed by Ajarn Tom, 3 years ago. Held at night within a cemetery, the ritual included:

Did you know the Hungry Ghost Festival is celebrated right here in Thailand too?

Especially in Thai-Chinese communities like Phuket, Bangkokโ€™s Yaowarat, and the South โ€” this sacred time (7th lunar month) is when the gates of the spirit world openโ€ฆ and offerings are made to hungry, wandering souls ๐Ÿงง๐Ÿ”ฅ

In Phuket, itโ€™s called the Por Tor Festival, where locals present red turtle cakes, fruits, roast meats, and joss paper to appease spirits and bring good luck.

Almost the same, but slightly different.

Itโ€™s a powerful blend of ancestral worship, Buddhist merit-making, and age-old Chinese traditionsโ€ฆ honoring both the unseen and the dearly departed ๐Ÿ™โœจ

Have you seen a Hungry Ghost festival offering in Thailand before?

Phra or Prai, all amulets are sacred toolsโ€”meant to guide, protect, and assist those who seek with faith.

They do not create miracles from nothing, but can shift fate, ease hardship, and open doorsโ€”when met with sincere effort and intention.

Their power responds to oneโ€™s barameeโ€”the unseen merit and strength cultivated through deeds and virtue. Without it, even the most powerful charm may remain still.

Wear with respect, walk with purpose. The amulet supports, but you shape the path.
