Evangelical Free Church of Singapore

Evangelical Free Church of Singapore We are a denomination in that we have distinctives and commonalities that give cohesiveness to our movement.

EFCS comprises of Bethany EFC, Charis EFC, Covenant EFC, Ebenezer EFC, Emmanuel EFC, Emmaus EFC, Family of Grace EFC, Geylang EFC, Praise EFC, S-Word EFC and Woodlands EFC. However, we do not have a hierarchy that governs the local churches. Each church is a self-governing body under God’s rule, and elects its own officers, raises its own budget, provides for its own building, calls its own past

or(s), and shapes its own programmes. These evangelical free churches have in common certain Bible-based purposes, principles, and practices that give them a basis for co-operation, and they recognise that there are some things that they can do in concert which they could not accomplish on their own.

Response to Government’s Announcement on the Repeal of Section 377A

The Evangelical Free Church of Singapore (EFCS) acknowledges the Government’s announcement to repeal Section 377A made at the National Day Rally on 21 August 2022.

As a member of the National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS), we affirm the NCCS statement made on 21 August 2022 in response to that announcement. (See https://nccs.org.sg/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/NCCS-Statemt-on-Repeal-of-S377A-20220821.pdf)

We affirm the Government’s position that they will maintain the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman, and strongly support moves by the Government to amend the Constitution itself to robustly reflect this. This understanding of marriage and family is critical for the sake of future generations as well as for the good of our nation. As part of the Church, the EFCS must do our best to encourage the beauty and life-giving nature that such marriages and families bring to society.

Meanwhile, it is also vital that the Government continue to recognise and protect the constitutional right of the Church, to proclaim, teach and practise what we believe to be right based on our biblical convictions, and that religious freedom in Singapore would not be curtailed or compromised.

In advocating for biblical marriage and family, we acknowledge that this issue has great potential to divide society. We affirm the dignity and worth of every LGBTQ person as precious, since all people are made in the image of God. We thus at the same time advocate for mutual respect in the midst of differing views and encourage all Christians to maintain a posture of love and compassion in such dialogues. In all our engagements, we must and will continue to uphold biblical truths and convictions.

May the Church in Singapore continue to be a righteous, courageous and winsome witness in our land.

Over 170 representatives from the 11 EFCS churches gathered for our denomination’s 60th Anniversary Celebration Evening on 23 Oct 2021 over Zoom to celebrate 60 years of God’s faithfulness to the EFCS. The theme was “Connecting the Generations’”. It was our first fully virtual anniversary celebration. Nevertheless, it was an unforgettable night of thanksgiving, worship, prayer, games and getting to know one another from the various churches.

A very big “Thank you!” to the organising committee comprising of Katrina Pang, Paul Tan, Daniel Ng, Ariyana, Sonali, Ps Ming Hui and Ps Paul Lau for making that night a truly memorable one!

The EFCS60 Organising Committee led by Pastor Ivan Ho (Covanant EFC) and Rev Lui Meng Hong (S-Word EFC) met up this week for dinner virtually via Zoom to share their thanksgiving and reflections about planning and running the EFCS60 Conference and Celebration Evening. Although most of our Committee meetings this year were via Zoom, it has been a privilege serving together and we truly enjoyed the opportunity to work together with our brothers and sisters across the different EFCS churches for God’s glory. We are also thankful for the leadership of Pastor Ivan and Rev Lui who have worked tirelessly throughout the year preparing and leading the team for the events!

First row (From left): Rev Lui Meng Hong (S-Word EFC), Pastor Ivan Ho (Covenant EFC), Denise Seah (Covenant EFC), Margaret Teo (Woodlands EFC).

A sneak peak behind the scenes 🎬
(1) EFCS Chairman, Rev Dr Chua Chung Kai, giving his opening address; (2) The worship team comprising EFCS young adults recording their worship sets for the two mornings; and (3) Rev Dr Patrick Fung delivering his Bible expositions for our morning devotions.

The EFCS60 Conference is a milestone event for the denomination, but we believe that God also wants to use it bless the wider Church, as well as parachurch organisations. We trust that all Christ’s disciples who join in this Conference will be greatly blessed by the times of worship and prayer, and empowered by all the Bible expositions, Theme Messages and Workshops.

The registration deadline has been extended 😃 and the last day to sign up is TODAY! REGISTER NOW if you haven’t! Sign up at https://www.sistic.com.sg/events/efcs60.

We really hope that you can join us. May God greatly bless you!

P.S.: If you are unable to attend certain sessions on 22-23 Oct, no worries! The videos of all the sessions will be made available to registrants on the Conference website from the following week onwards as video-on-demand for playback anytime over the next two months. 😊
