‘…Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.’ Phil. 2: 4
Indeed Christmas is again upon us soon! From the context of this text, we’re reminded why Christ came into this world: for the good of sinners to redeem them from the bo***ge of sin & to give them a new lease of life through faith & repentance in Him.
The apostle Paul used the example of Jesus to exhort the believers in Philippi (and us today) to do the same: look out for the interests of others.
If you are not hopping unto the VTL bandwagon ☺ and you’re drawing up a list of things to get for this year end festive, why not consider the exhortation of apostle Paul by getting good books from SCM for these classes of people:
Missionaries or regional overseas churches/pastors that your church is in touch with & support: get them books to surprise and edify them (since the pandemic has seriously decimated, but not destroy! the fellowships especially those in poorer countries)
Young believers in your fellowship: Ps. 78: 1-4 & Ps. 34: 11 remind us of the need to establish & ground the next generation in the faith once delivered to the saints. Some of the titles we have are meant to do just that. Get good solid books to give to these young believers so that they in turn will tell the next generation ‘to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.’
Your fellowship: Some are well in Christ generally while others are perhaps struggling quietly in this hard season of life – for the latter, might a surprise book gift to them help a little to ‘strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees’ (Heb. 12: 12), so that their eyes will again look up to Jesus and continue on with the race set before us together? Those well in Christ will also need encouragement to stay the course, press on & to come alongside others to help – and there are good titles that can do just that!
Your church leaders: these under-shepherds have to double/triple the effort to get the church going during this pandemic. They have to seek out the wandering. They have to keep the spiritual vitality of the fellowship continuing. And they have to also manage their own family dynamics as well as perhaps their own anxieties and fears. Have a thought for them by surprising them with a book gift to edify their souls?
