This is because, firstly, in the Bible the church is depicted as being one new humanity, and one new body in Christ (Ephesians 2:15). She has one Lord, one faith, and one baptism, and she worships one God (Ephesians 4:4-5). Given the multiracial, multi-religious make-up of Singapore society, and the constant risk of fragmentation, unity is an important theme for Singapore. Secondly, ‘One Covenant’
emphasises the one plan of redemption that God has for all humanity running through the pages of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. We affirm the Covenant of Redemption, the Covenant of Works, and the Covenant of Grace. ‘One Covenant’ refers to the one Covenant of Grace that spans the Old and New Testaments. We desire to be a united community, proclaiming this one plan of redemption to the nations. We are a church that is,
Confessional: By this, we mean that we believe that the Bible is without error and is the supreme authority in the Church, and, that we subscribe to the ancient Christian creeds (the Apostle’s Creed, Nicene Creed, Chalcedon Creed, and Athanasian Creed), and the Westminster Standards (Confession of Faith, Larger and Shorter Catechisms) as subordinate standards that faithfully summarise the Bible’s teaching. Connectional: By this, we mean that we hold to, and strive toward a Presbyterian polity whereby we will seek mutual accountability and encouragement from like-minded churches, and seek to be on mission with them. Commissional: By this, we mean that we are an outward-facing church, believing that God has commissioned the church to proclaim the gospel to the nations. Contextualisation, cultural engagement and world missions are hence important to us.
