Guarding Our Relationship with God
Sermon by Pastor Peter Lui
As we conclude our “Be Watchful” sermon series, Pastor Peter Lui reminds us that some of life’s greatest losses do not happen suddenly—they happen gradually. Marriages weaken, friendships fade, families drift apart, and even believers can slowly lose their passion for God without realizing it.
The most important relationship we will ever have is our relationship with Jesus Christ. God created us not merely to follow a religion, but to enjoy a personal relationship with Him. Through Christ’s sacrifice, we have been restored into fellowship with God and invited into a deep, intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Drawing from Revelation 2, Pastor Peter highlights Jesus’ warning to the church in Ephesus:
“You have left your first love.”
The Ephesian believers were strong in doctrine, active in ministry, and faithful in service, yet they had slowly drifted from their love for Christ. Their devotion had become routine rather than relational.
The sermon challenges us to examine our own hearts:
Has our love for Jesus grown deeper over time?
Are we serving God while neglecting intimacy with Him?
Have spiritual routines replaced genuine devotion?
Pastor Peter also reminds us that God has placed us within a spiritual family. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are called to encourage, support, and protect one another from division, gossip, misunderstandings, and isolation.
Finally, believers are urged to remain vigilant against the enemy, who seeks to destroy relationships and weaken faith. Through prayer, truth, unity, and dependence on God, we can stand firm and guard what matters most.
Our relationship with Jesus should never remain stagnant. Every day, we are called to grow deeper in love, devotion, and intimacy with Him.
