Christians who are still trapped in a sinful lifestyle generally forgot who they are in Jesus. Once they embrace being God's beloved and righteousness in Christ, they loose the appetite to temptation and sin.

King David, the man after God’s own heart, apparently didn’t have a life on bed of roses. He faced extreme challenges time and again. His one revealed secret in overcoming turmoil, depressions and unrests was remembering and declaring “Give thanks to the Lord for His loving kindness endures forever”.

Christians praise God when good things happen.

And when believers, like David, remember God’s loving kindness (in Hebrew “hesed” meaning grace) during challenging situations, circumstances do change to their favour.

It is a noble act for Christians to actively serve in church ministries, attend regular church services, give to charities, go to missions, share what they have to those in need, to live a morally upright life or to be considered the kindest person in history. So much so that these things are considered good, but if not founded on the premise that as believers we have become “the righteousness of God IN Christ Jesus” and that righteousness is a gift, all these performances and works is zero in God’s eyes.

It is all because of Jesus and because He loves us- that is, nothing of man not even a feather of pride.

Jesus is with no sin.

In Him is no sin. (1 Jn 3:5)
He committed no sin. (1 Peter 2:22)
He has no sin. (2 Cor 5:21)

Between, God sparing the human race and His own Son- He chose not to save His own Son.
Instead God made Him, who had no sin to be sin for us (2 Cor 5:21). Jesus, in place of fallen man, received the gruesome punishment, wrath and anger of lawlessness, disobedience and pride- so that in Him, man becomes the righteousness of God.

Jesus suffered for the sins He didn’t have. Believers receive the righteousness they don’t deserve.
This is the Gospel.
