The COVID-19 situation has reached a decisive crossroad, which can be a turning point in stopping widespread community transmission. The Singapore Muslim community is united in this with the rest of Singaporeans, and have been undertaking the necessary precautions, including the closure of mosques to protect the vulnerable groups among us, and ensure the nation remains safe.
From Tuesday 7 April, a circuit breaker has been introduced in Singapore, with the temporary suspension of all but essential services. This will involve the closure of places of worship from 7 April to 4 May.
Our mosques are currently already closed, however, we regret that this means that the small spaces for individual prayer at some mosques will no longer be available.
During this period, essential Muis services continue to be available and we encourage the public to access these via phone, or online channels, or by appointment.
We discourage the public from leaving home unless necessary, nevertheless, our counters remain open to provide the following essential services:
Emergency Zakat Financial Assistance
Zakat, Fidyah and Kaffarah enquiries and payments
Appeal Board - Filing of notice, petition and record of appeal and payment
For the time being, we are suspending fresh applications for Haj.
We continue to welcome religious queries via telephone and email, and via appointment if you feel you require more detailed explanation.
You may reach our officers via 6359 1199 and [email protected], or browse for more information on our services at www.muis.gov.sg. You can view the list of online religious content from our mosques at go.gov.sg/onlinekuliah
We urge you to spend time at home during this period, and we will do our best to continue to serve you. We seek your understanding for any inconvenience these changes may cause.
We call upon Muslims in Singapore to stay strong and positive during this period, and look out and care for their family members and fellow citizens.
Do not despair, for “Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear” (2:286).
While our mosques are closed, we encourage the community to seek solace in acts of individual worship or with family members in your household. There are also many talks and reflections by our Asatizah available online.
We will get through this together.
