THE END (OF THE BEGINNING)

Starting off our last day, our DYB Chairman, Revd Aaron, reminded SERVErs that passion is not enough, that even as they go back into their parishes, they need to have a plan on how they want to move forward.

We want to extend our deepest appreciation to Archbishop Titus Chung for making time to come down and answer the SERVErs burning questions, encouraging the SERVErs to continue to draw close to God and keep the gap between them and God small.

As we entered into a time of individual and group reflections, the SERVErs shared deeply and honestly about their thoughts and feeling on what they had learnt and experienced. Let us continue to pray that the lessons they have learnt will continue to empower them to follow Christ.

Closing off our programme with Holy Communion service, through the lectionary readings for the day, Rodney prompted our SERVErs to reflect on the greatness of our God, a God who gives us assurance, strength and His healing touch.

We are thankful that All Saint's Church was willing to host SERVE Academy for the second half the day, especially the BBQ dinner, as we enjoyed a time of fellowship over food (and burning the food). It was a bittersweet moment to see SERVE Academy come to an end, but this is only the beginning for each and every SERVEr and we are excited to see how God will work in their lives.

SESSION AFTER SESSION AFTER SESSION

To begin the day, the SERVErs started off with an introduction to liturgy by Revd Weikai, about what liturgy really is and how it is still relevant in our modern context. The SERVErs were challenged to go back to their parishes to find out more about their own liturgies and the meaning behind why they have certain traditions and practices.

Continuing on to look at missions with respect to the Anglican church, Revd Bernard shared with our SERVErs on what the Diocese of Singapore has been doing and encouraged them to be part of missions in whatever capacity they can, whether short-term or long-term.

We are thankful that Revd Dr Jeremy-Joe made another trip down to Pasir Ris to share with the SERVErs on the story of the Anglican church and tracing the different seasons of the church in England, to the church of England and then to the church from England. Our SERVErs were reminded of how sometimes being absolutely right is not as important as being together and how this shapes our Anglican understanding of church unity.

Ending off our last night at SERVE Academy with ministry night, Revd Aaron spoke a powerful message, calling the youth to grow up, step up and serve like Jesus. We pray that this message will continue to speak into their lives and empower them to step out in faith even as we are soon drawing the programme to a close.🙏

JOURNEY TO THE WEST

Throughout this week, the SERVErs are practicing the Daily Offices, slowing down and immersing themselves in the spiritual rythms of morning prayer, evening prayer and compline.

We are deeply appreciative of Revd Dr Jeremy-Joe for making time to come down and share with our SERVErs about our Anglican distinctives, the Book of Common Prayer and the 39 Articles and how that shapes our faith and beliefs.

Our SERVErs were brought through an experiential learning experience of community service, partnering with Church of Our Saviour to make this possible. Even with the language and dialect barriers, our SERVErs sought to forge relationships across the generations, feeling inspired by the personal stories they heard and enthusiasm shown by the elderly.

The SERVErs had endless questions to ask Archdeacon Venerable Daniel Wee, which he answered artfully, sharing his own perspectives and thoughts with the youths. We are thankful for the nuggets of wisdom that he shared and used to encourage the youths.

LIFE MAP DAY

Thank you Revd Choo for coming down and sharing not just about how to use the Life Map as a tool to help us understand God's hand in our lives, but also encouraging our SERVErs to build up a culture of affirmation in their own parishes. Through the group discussions, the SERVErs shared and heard one another's life stories, gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and each other.

We would also like to extend our thanks to Alvin and Esther for sharing their testimonies and their journey exploring and discerning God's full-time ministry calling for them, with Revd Weikai serving faithfully in moderating the discussion.

Let us continue to keep everyone involved in SERVE Academy this year in prayer, that God will speak into each and everyone of their hearts.

NEW YEAR NEW LOCATION NEW SERVE BATCH

From checking into our campsite all the way in the East (Pasir Ris😮), breaking ice and getting to know one another, to hearing about the importance of spiritual friendships in our broken world today from Revd Weikai as well as learning to abide in Christ and trust Him as the sower of our faith from Revd Weiyi, it has been a fruitful and exciting day for our SERVERs.

Let us continue to keep this new cohort of youths and young adults in prayer as they start their SERVE Academy journey!

“God, that hurt.”

Yeah… childhood trauma, family drama, emotional baggage - everyone’s carrying a little something. But some shared stories, and perhaps an open convo with God might come in handy.

Come hang out, laugh a little, maybe cry a bit (no pressure), as Melissa T, a Clinical Pastoral Care Counsellor, helps unpack the stuff we usually bury.

God’s not afraid of our mess, and neither should we.

🗓️ 19 September 2025 (Friday)
⏱️ 7.30pm-10pm
📍Church of the Good Shepherd, 2 Dundee Rd, S(149454)
