âKhantÄ« paramaáč tapo titikkhÄâ. Patient acceptance is the ultimate fervor. â Dhp 184 (trans. Bhikkhu Sujato)
Often translated as patience, khanti is more than waiting it out. Itâs the capacity to stay open without shutting down, lashing out, or turning bitter when life refuses to cooperate.
It doesnât mean nothing bothers you. It means youâre no longer ruled by what bothers you.
During meditation, we sit with discomfort: restless legs, a wandering mind, a feeling youâd rather avoid. In daily life, that same training meets the difficult colleague, the unanswered message, the plan that fell apart.
