The dragon is one of the most famous mythical creatures in traditional Chinese culture.
It is not a real animal, but a mythical creature developed over time from different animal features and natural phenomena.
The ancient Chinese dictionary Shuowen Jiezi describes the dragon as the “leader of scaled creatures” and says that it can change in size and appearance, rise to the heavens in spring, and hide in deep waters in autumn.
Over time, the dragon’s appearance became more detailed. Traditionally, it was said to have the horns of a deer, head of a camel, eyes of a rabbit, ears of an ox, neck of a snake, belly of a shen, scales of a fish, claws of an eagle, and paws of a tiger.
In myths and folk beliefs, the dragon is also believed to fly through the clouds and bring rain. It is therefore closely linked with rivers, lakes, clouds, and rain. As dragon worship developed, stories of Dragon Kings and Dragon Palaces also became part of Chinese folklore.

White Dew is the 15th of the 24 solar terms and usually falls around September 7 to 9 each year.
During White Dew, the weather starts to cool, and the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures becomes more noticeable. In the early morning, dew can often be seen on grass, leaves, and flowers, which is where the name “White Dew” comes from.
White Dew is also associated with interesting traditional customs in different places.
In Fuzhou, Fujian, there is a tradition of eating longan during White Dew. As longan is in season around this time, people enjoy fresh longan to celebrate the harvest and the arrival of autumn.
There is even a traditional saying that “eating one longan during White Dew is as nourishing as eating a chicken.” However, this is simply a folk saying and should not be taken as a medical or nutritional claim.
