In Islamic teachings, animal sacrifice is a symbol of obedience, an expression of gratitude, and a form of worship that is greatly loved by Allah SWT. Below is an explanation of the types of animal sacrifice in Islam:
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْۜ
"So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]."
(Surah Al-Kawthar: 2)
🔸 *AQIQAH QURBAN*
Aqiqah is an animal sacrifice to thank Allah for a child's birth. It's best done on the 7th day, or whenever possible. It is a Sunnah Muakkadah.
For a boy: 2 goats For a girl: 1 goat
(Al-Majmü' Syarh Al-Muhadzdzab)
"Every child is pledged for his Aqiqah, which is slaughtered on the seventh day, the hair is shaved, and the child is named."
(Hadith – Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)
🔸 *NAZAR QURBAN*
Nazar Sacrifice is the sacrifice performed to fulfill a vow (nazar) made to Allah when a wish or need is granted. It is obligatory (Wajib)
once the vow is made.
Example: "If I pass the exam, I vow to sacrifice a goat.
"Whoever makes a vow to obey Allah, then let him fulfill it."
(Hadith – Bukhari)
🔸 *SHUKUR QURBAN*
Syukur or Sadaqah Sacrifice is performed as a form of thankfulness to Allah for blessings received, such as passing an exam, or safety from disaster, while Shifa (Syifa) Sacrifice, a type of Sadaqah Sacrifice, is offered for seeking healing and recovery.
(Al-Majmü' Syarh Al-Muhadzdzab)
"If you are grateful, I will surely increase My favor upon you."
(Surah Ibrahim: 7)
🔸 *SHIFA QURBAN*
Shifa Sacrifice is a type of slaughtering done with the intention of seeking healing and protection for oneself, one’s family, or others who are ill.
"Treat your sick ones with charity."
(Hadith – Thabrani, Bayhaqi)
