Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
Is there true freedom when there are commandments? There are various commandments in the bible ranging from things you should not do and things you should do. It seems that we are merely following good moral laws to live a righteous life.
Commandments are given with God's heart of love to lead us and guide us to the right path, not to restrict us or burden us. By faith in God's love to obey His commandments, we will find ourselves truly free from the yoke of sin.
Sin enslaves and entangles us in repetitive motions where we find ourselves unable to break free. But by faith in Jesus Christ whom God sent in His abounding love for us, He broke off all chains of sins so that we are no longer slaves to sin but filled with God's righteousness by His blood!
By His blood, we are free to live with joy and no fear because by faith we know God loves us and holds us secure as His children. With the heart of sincere love towards the Father and full faith, so we obey to His commandments.
Yet even all these commandments can be summarized in Romans 13:8-10.
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet," and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Let Christ's love be revealed in our lives for God and His people, that we willingly make ourselves slaves to righteousness (Romans 6) not because we are not free. But because of God's amazing love and grace that He became nothing to give us eternal life!
