Nordic Asa-community The Nordic Asa-community N.A.C english page. Welcome. The belief that shaped the Nordic Vikings!

Asatru is a religion practiced by the Vikings from Scandinavia. The religion that created and shaped the Nordic countries and the Viking heritage is still alive and around today. Unfortunately Asatru has previously been pushed back by Christianity and the advent of other religions. For us it is important to preserve our ancient traditions and stand up for who we are and our origins, to rekindle As

atru and again allow our old gods to have a prominent place in our everyday lives. No longer are we to be in the shadow of other religions, but to have a life of our own to grow strongly in, to be seen and heard, and to influence public debate.

Performed Blóts 2026: The Blót Kindred Gungnir held Victory Blót on April 25.

For the Victory Blót, Gungnir gathered at the Pilane burial ground on Tjörn, Sweden. The same location as last year. The weather was, as usual, much better in the coastal zone than inland; however, it was quite windy, so we found a sheltered spot for the actual gathering. Uwe served as blót officiant with Lena as assistant.

Performed Blóts 2026: The Blót Kindred Vergelmer held Dísablót April 11.

Vergelmer held Dísablót on April 11 at the stone ship setting by Lake Mjösjön in Umeå, Sweden. The stone ship setting at Lake Mjösjön is Sweden’s northernmost stone ship setting, located on a ridge just south of Lake Mjösjön in Umeå Municipality, Västerbotten County.
In the area there are several ancient remains; among them are four graves from the Bronze Age (1700–500 BC), including Sweden’s northernmost stone ship setting, as well as two cairns and one stone setting.

Performed Blóts 2026: The Blót Kindred Gungnir held Disablót March 28.

On Saturday, March 28, the blót kindred Gungnir held its traditional Dísablót outdoors on Hönö. The location is a labyrinth called Tryggeberg. A beautiful place that we gladly return to. Easy to get to by both car and public transport.

The day offered us Sunna’s warming rays, and the wind stayed away despite us being on an island. There were thirteen of us in the circle and two outside. There was quite a large number of absences for various reasons. Those who could not attend physically were with us in our thoughts during the ceremony. As always, everyone is welcome at our open blóts. A couple of new faces, new to me, appeared in the circle, which is always pleasing.

Performed Blóts 2026: The Blót Kindred Idavallen held Disablót March 28.

Like last year, Idavallen gathered in Närke, more precisely at the Lekebacken burial field, to hold a disablót. And like last year, it was very chilly. Icy winds swept through, and a few small drops of rain fell now and then. Despite this, I must say that this place has something special about it. When you walk along the path from the parking area toward the stones and the cairn beyond, a calm sets in along with a sense of past powers and their greatness. One can almost feel transported back in history. And the fact that the place is incredibly beautiful as it overlooks the plain certainly does not make the experience any worse.

Today, on International Women's Day, we honor women – those who have borne, shaped, and guided our world throughout history. But to fully understand and appreciate the strength and role of women, we must look back to the societies of our ancestors. In the Old Norse countries, women were not a shadow in the men’s world – they were a force, creators, and decision-makers. Their voices carried weight, their hands governed the farm and household, and their will shaped the future of the clan.

Our foremothers held a position that, in many respects, was stronger than in many contemporary societies in Europe. They could own land, engage in trade, and even negotiate and participate in legal disputes. Widows or single women could assume full responsibility and manage their own affairs without a guardian. In the legal compilation Grágás, clear provisions exist regarding women's rights to own property and seek divorce.
Women who were housewives ruled the household and were responsible for the finances within the home. They held the keys to the storerooms, a symbol of their authority. But women were not just household managers – they could, for example, be warriors, gyðja, and experienced traders. Stories of women like Freydís Eiríksdóttir, who, according to the Greenland Saga, took up arms and defended her people, or Lagertha, the sharp-witted and feared shield-maiden mentioned by Saxo Grammaticus, show that women were not confined to the home.

Archaeological finds, such as the graves in Birka, testify to female warriors and women in trade. This shows that women not only possibly participated in warfare but likely held high military ranks. Saga literature, such as the saga of Egil Skallagrimsson, mentions strong and decisive women like Egil's grandfather Myrkjartan and his sister Thorgerd, who did not hesitate to make their own decisions and put men in their place.
But then came Christianity. With missionaries and swords, the new faith spread across the Nordic countries, and with it, the position of women changed. The old customs, where women had influence and could exercise power, were deemed heathen and should be replaced by the church's order. The Catholic Church brought laws that restricted women's freedoms, such as making them legally subordinate to their husbands and limiting their rights to own land. Women lost the right to be leaders in spiritual life – the völvas disappeared into the shadows. With Christian legislation, such as the Norwegian Kristinréttir laws from the 1200s, it was established that women must submit to their husbands, and their previous rights were curtailed.

But the strength of women can never be suppressed. Our strong foremothers live on in today’s women – in those who dare, in those who fight, in those who refuse to be silenced. Every woman who raises her voice for justice, every woman who refuses to be chained by norms, is an heir to the pagan women who once ruled, defended, and shaped their own destiny.

So, on this day, International Women's Day, let us honor the women who came before us and the women who today carry forward the legacy of strength, wisdom, and courage.
Let us remember the völvas who whispered the words of fate, the housewives who ruled with a firm hand, the shield-maidens who lifted the sword, and the women who refused to bow to a world that sought to make them small.

Hail our foremothers!
Hail the women of today!
May your strength never fade, may your voices never be silenced!

Performed Blóts 2026: The Blót Kindred Sleipner Held a Closed Midwinter Blót on February 9.

A smaller, closed blót where the blót kindred was able to deepen the work with themselves, each other, and strengthen the bonds to the faith.

The blót was held at Grossvad in Finspång, Sweden with all members present. The blótofficiant was the kindred leader Kristian Svensson, who had selected central parts of the items the blót kindred usually uses. The focus was on simplicity and what is most essential.

Performed Blóts 2025: On December 7, the blót kindred Sleipner held its annual closed winter blót with a following feast.

On 7/12, the blót kindred Sleipner gathered for our annual winter blót with a following feast.
Although this year’s blót unfortunately had to be canceled, the feast was carried out as planned — and what an evening it turned out to be!

This is a closed event where blót kindreds and their families are invited to meet, share knowledge, experiences, joy, and memories.

The Blót kindred Idavallen held Midwinter Blót on February 1.

On Sunday, February 1st, the blót kindred Idavallen gathered at the Mogården burial ground in Sweden to hold a communal Midwinter blót for the first time since I joined. This blót was closed, and was thus held intimately within our own little community that we have built up over the years within the Värmland expanses.
Midwinter blót in particular has always been a time for reflection and thought in solitude for me. A breathing space where I detach myself from the noise and sluggishness of everyday life and truly go within, almost meditatively. An opportunity to examine oneself, contemplate one’s achievements and goals for the future. This is often a clear turning point, both in the nature surrounding me and within myself. As brighter times noticeably approach, sparks also begin to fly within me. A hunger for activity and commitments awakens after winter’s inevitable dormancy.

Performed Blóts 2026: The blót kindreds Gungnir and Draupnir jointly held Midwinter blót on January 31.

On Saturday, 31/1, Gungnir and Draupnir jointly held Midwinter blót. The location was Vårkumla passage grave outside Falköping in Sweden, a site with origins dating back to 5000 years before our current era. A well-chosen place, offering a view over the surrounding countryside and the nearby plateau mountain. The weather that day offered severe winter cold with several degrees below zero and, at times, strong winds that made the cold cut straight through marrow and bone.
