Life at school is a whole different experience—especially in boarding schools, where children’s needs go far beyond tuition and basic supplies. Even when the essentials are covered, there’s always one or two things missing 😉

And sometimes, you don’t need words—the way these children light up when they see you from afar says it all. That’s why school visits truly matter.

When caregivers shift to become mentors, it shows that they have been impacted by the program. They themselves have experienced positive change and feel the need to give back. In the context like ours where finding church-based mentors is challenging, dedicated caregivers step in to serve the children of their fellow parents.

The difference Hoffnungsträger ‘s livelihood project is making has redefined the approach for home-based gardening.

It goes beyond the tested yet simple and adaptable techniques to grow food within limited spaces to using wastes and forgotten materials around our homes.

From wastes and debris, families are learning to be productive with what they grow in their backyards—having nutritious food and selling the surplus to cater for other basic needs.

The benefits of having a mentor are huge. This holds true when we see the difference between children who are paired to mentors and those who are not. They are more stable, restored and more. We are doing all we can to mobilize and maintain these men and women who are just dedicated to serving vulnerable children.

We have been working intensively to mobilize and train and equip mentors; we are motivated by the passion of men and women who have got this. Contexts may differ but one thing is certain—children engaged with mentors show signs of restoration, stability and a safe place to release their emotions. The journey continues.
