NOBILITY IN SCRIPTURES Part 1 Tuesday 14th May 2019

Badega Ndoli Alex

“And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming [thither] went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:10-11 KJV

Our theme scripture tells us how Apostle Paul left Thessalonica for Berea and how he found the Bereans. The bible says that the Bereans were MORE NOBLE in comparison to those in Thessalonica. The term “Noble” is the Greek word “eugenesteros” of which the comparative degree is “eugenes”, "more noble (or nobler)," referring to the state of being "more noble-minded" and the name Berea means “well-watered” in Greek.

Putting these definitions together we can understand what kind of people the Bereans were. First they were Norble-minded. Second, they were well-watered like the garden of the Lord (Isaiah 51:3 AMP). Their minds were well prepared for the word of God like a garden is well-prepared for seeds. This is why they received the Word of God with “all” readiness of mind and searched scriptures “daily” to see whether what Apostle Paul presented to them was true.

We have a very big problem in the church today where most Christians follow with their emotions and sentiments rather than their minds. This is why there is immaturity and disorder causing a lot of fanaticism and division. We extremely love “motivation speeches” (which unfortunately most times is what we refer to as POWERFUL PREACHING OF THE WORD OF GOD) more than truth rightly divided. This is because we love and enjoy results without knowledge of the process. We go for finished goods without knowledge of the ingredients. There is no Noble-Mindedness in the way we treat God’s word. No eagerness and readiness of mind in receiving the truth.

A noble-minded Christian will always be eager and ready to receive the truth of the word, not only with his emotions but with his mind also. They don’t leave their brains behind when they go for church services. They are ready even to go an extra mile in searching scriptures to find out whether what the preacher said was in line with the truth of God’s word. They don’t just swallow everything they hear because the presenter holds or claims to hold a certain position in the church. They love and respect ministers of the word but they treat God’s word nobly. Following with your brain is what nobility in scriptures means!

If the word of God is presented to a noble-minded Christian and he realizes that it lacks “right division”, because the presenter failed to “study and present himself to God as a workman who doesn’t have to be ashamed” (2 Tim 2:15 KJV), he will still love the preacher but won’t believe his words. Your brain or mind is a very essential asset as far as the gospel is concerned! Get ready your mind when listening to a sermon and be prepare to search scriptures for more light.

AS NOTORIOUS AS BARABBAS!
Tuesday 30th April 2019

Badega N. Alex

“And at that time they had a notorious prisoner whose name was Barabbas. So when they had assembled for this purpose, Pilate said to them, Whom do you want me to set free for you, Barabbas, or Jesus Who is called Christ?...But the chief priests and the elders prevailed on the people to ask for Barabbas, and put Jesus to death.” Matthew‬ ‭27:16-17‬, 20 AMPC‬‬

The name Barabbas means "son of Abba" in Aramaic. Which would mean "son of the Father" in English. Aramaic was one of the three languages used in Israel during the time of Jesus. There other two were Greek and Hebrew.

Our theme scripture is derived from the story of Barabbas, one of the few stories that appears in all four gospels, (John 18:40 ; Mark 15:7 ; Luke 23:19; Matthew 27:16). In all gospels, this man is presented to us as a "notorious prisoner" who seems to have been put into prison for many crimes and had been sentenced to die but he was kept in prison before ex*****on.

While Barabbas was still in prison, Jesus also was brought by the Jewish religious leaders to Pilate a Roman governor to be judged. Among the accusation brought to Pilate against Jesus were that He called himself King, Son of God and able to destroy their temple which was built in forty years but claimed to rebuild it in three days. Pilate examined the charges and found out that Jesus was not guilty of any crime and wanted to release Him.

During that time, the Passover feast was approaching and as a custom, one prisoner was supposed to set free. In order for Pilate to find ways of freeing Jesus, he decided to bring forward the greatest criminal Barabbas, thinking that he would save Jesus and kill Barabbas.

Now both Jesus Christ who knew no sin and Barabbas a notorious prisoner were presented before the Jews by Pilate in request that they choose who to be crucified and who to be set free.
At Pilate's surprise, the Jews chose innocent Jesus for Crucifixion and notorious Barabbas for freedom. Imagine that!

Was that the right choice? Was there any comparison between the two? No! There was no comparison between Jesus and Barabbas whatsoever but this had a great significance in the history of humanity because it was the right exchange. The ALL IN ONE divine principle was being applied in this process. I and you were in Barabbas before Christ took on our place of Crucifixion. He took our judgment and punishment in order to buy our freedom.

Jesus (the Lord saves) was the right exchange for Barabbas "son of the Father." It was the right exchange for God to make sin He who knew no sin so that the notorious prisoner may become The Righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21). It was the right exchange of the blameless lamb to be sacrificed as a ransom for a sinful man's freedom.

Although Barabbas never knew who Jesus was and why he was crucified, Jesus knew Barabbas and why he should be free. It was for Barabbas that Jesus came into the world to redeem. It was for Barabbas that Jesus died on the Cross so as to give him life. While we were still notorious and held prisoners of sin yet the Father loved us so much anyway that He sent His only begotten Son for our freedom. The full price for our freedom was PAID on the Cross. It was an exchange of His life for ours to make us real SONS OF ABBA. Not because we are good but because He is good. Nothing to boast but Him!!!

"Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a noble and lovable and generous benefactor someone might even dare to die. But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.” Romans‬ ‭5:7-8‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

“For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law's demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]” Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-9‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

THE RESURRECTION LIFE
Tue 23rd April 2019
Badega N. Alex

“IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1).
“And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One). He did this that He might clearly demonstrate through the ages to come the immeasurable (limitless, surpassing) riches of His free grace (His unmerited favor) in [His] kindness and goodness of heart toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6-7).

Often times we tend to treat scriptures as historical narratives rather than divine effectual realities that have an eternal and profound impact on both the universe and humanity at large. Just as Apostle Paul said in Ephesians 1:17, we need the spirit of wisdom and revelation which is the only means to the understanding and experiencing of the divine truths. It is very important that we stop taking God’s word as stories written in the bible and begin to experience them as divine realities.

Apostle Paul in the above theme scriptures presents a certain truth concerning the “IN CHRIST” realities. He writes to both the Colossian and Ephesian Churches and presents to them a divine truth of OUR UNION with Christ in His resurrection. He wants us to understand the fact that we were not only united with Christ at resurrection but also in His crucifixion, Death, Burial, Ascension and Seating.

While some people think and celebrate the resurrection (Easter Sunday) as an event that took place in Jerusalem, Israel 2018 years ago in our absence, some of us are celebrating Christ as our real Life because we are fully convinced that whatever happened to Him happened to us, from the Cross to the throne. We were therefore crucified with Him, died with Him, buried with Him, quickened with Him, ascended with Him and seated with Him at the right hand of the Father in the heavenly places.

It’s by revelatory knowledge that we understand this truth which is presented in the “ALL IN ONE” divine principle or what we call “the science of our emancipation” (Romans 5). It’s within the same principle that we know that His Life “Zoe” (God’s kind of life) presently operates in us because as He is presently so are we in this world. He being the Head of the Church which is His body shouldn’t sound just like a beautiful statement to hear but a reality which we previously, presently and continuously participate into and experience. (1 John 4:17b; Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:18)

DEAD & RAISED LIKE LAZARUS!
Tuesday 16th April 2019

Badega N. Alex
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am [Myself] the Resurrection and the Life’”. John 11:25

The name Lazarus is the Greek variant of the Hebrew name Eliezer which means "God helps".

There are two bearers of this name in the bible; One was an imaginary or a type of person, extremely poor and wretched but caught up in paradise: (Luke 16:20, 23-25). The second, whom we are going to discuss today was an inhabitant of Bethany, beloved by Christ , brother to Mary and Martha, and raised from the dead by Christ: (John 11:1). These two though being different characters, their name means the same thing, God is the only source help for humanity.

The story in John 11 which narrates Lazarus's sickness, death and resurrection gives us the very purpose of Jesus’s coming into the world. He didn’t come to resurrect our dead situations and circumstances as some may assume but we are the reason of His appearing in the flesh. When we died, everything died, when we were raised, everything was raised. Just waiting for our manifestation as sons of God. (Romans 8:19)

Jesus once said that "a thief comes to steal, kill and destroy but I have come that you may have life and life in its fullness (or in its abundance). (John 10:10). It's after this statement that in the following 11th chapter of John, we find the story of Lazarus, a fiend of Jesus and brother to Martha and Mary who later falls sick and dies.

Lazarus is a picture of all humanity as dead in sin. All of us were totally dead, without help and hope for life. As Martha said, "by this time he's stinking...", (vs 39) we were stinking dead in our trespasses. We all know that a dead body has no capacity whatsoever to respond to any speech. It's only God alone who has the power to cause the dead to hear. The dead can only respond to its creator.

This state of death defies all claims and teachings that try to portray a state where man is capable of receiving Christ in his life or giving Christ his life for salvation. We had no life whatsoever to give Him or receive Him into. We were not capable of believing in Him even. The truth is, we were completely dead But God who is rich in mercy, made as alive again through Christ. (Eph 2:1; Col 2:13). It’s Christ Himself who gave us His life instead. He became our new real life. (Colossians 3:4 AMP)

When Martha doubted the resurrection of her brother, Jesus's response was, "I'm the resurrection and life..." When all hope was gone for us to have life again due to the kind of death we had died, Jesus Christ became our Resurrection and Life. He stood near the entrance of the open tomb of Lazarus to demonstrate the kind of power necessary for bringing us back to life.

Jesus said, “Believe Me when I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the time is coming and is here now when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear it shall live.” John‬ ‭5:25‬ ‭AMPC‬ “So faith "COMES" by hearing [what is told], and what is heard "COMES" by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).” Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭AMPC. It’s by the effectual call of the voice of God, currying along divine ability of faith that a dead man can’t resist but hear and be imparted with life from the creator, causing divine life to pe*****te through all the dead parts and create a new man, thus the term "New Creation".‬‬‬‬‬‬

The faith that saves or resurrects is the faith that "COMES" into a dead Lazarus through the life giving word of Christ and gives him a new life, Christ's very life. Don't we know that He is the AUTHOR and finisher of our faith? (Hebrews 12:2). If He is the Author, then how could we claim or boast as having our own faith to believe in Him? We were dead but graciously raised like Lazarus.

“Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation).” (Underline mine) (Ephesians‬ ‭2:5‬ ‭AMPC)‬‬‬‬

DON’T RE-ENTHRONE SIN AS KING!
Tue 9th April 2019

Badega N. Alex
“Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil passions. For sin shall not [any longer] exert dominion over you, since now you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God's favor and mercy].”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:12, 14‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬‬‬

The Message Version puts it this way, “That means you must not give sin a vote in the way you conduct your lives. Don’t give it the time of day. Sin can’t tell you how to live. After all, you’re not living under that old tyranny any longer. You’re living in the freedom of God.” Romans‬ ‭6:12, 14‬ ‭MSG‬‬‬‬

I'd like to first point out that it's so unfortunate that some people who have heard the preaching of the gospel of the grace of God, ignorantly reject is by concluding that those who preach grace are encouraging and giving people a license to live a loose and immoral lifestyle. Although that is untrue, I'm convinced that it's impossible to live under grace and still live a sinful lifestyle. I confidently call for a close examination of my lifestyle by anyone who would wish to accuse or conclude on such matters.

This is my stand, together with those who are in my circles of ministry, we request that people should watch our lives. If they find us live unworthy, then let them make their conclusions. Anyone who preaches the gospel of the grace of God but lives a life that doesn't glorify God, doesn't understand what grace is and has never experienced grace.

Our understanding and dealings with sin is as Apostle Paul teaches. In our theme scripture, it's very interesting that Apostle Paul presents sin “personified” as a despotic "king" with authority and dominion to rule over man. Did you know that sin is a "king" who wants to exert his tyrannical rule over you?

Although king sin is a despotic or tyrannical ruler who exerts his dominion with forceful threats towards his people, the scripture reveals that Jesus has condemned sin through His death on the cross. (Romans 8:3) Apostle tells us that through our union with Christ, that is in His death, burial and resurrection, we were saved from the dominion of "King sin", thus dead also, in other words separated from its rule. We were given power through the Holy Spirit to live free from all sin’s dictates.

That's why Apostle Paul says that we as people who are dead and separated from the rulership of king sin, we shouldn't again continue to obey his dictates and commands. Sin has been dethroned by Christ, so we should not again re-enthrone him in our bodies by obeying him. We shouldn't think that sin is still powerful to keep us under his control. We have been graciously given the ability to live free from sin. When sin speaks, he speaks but a deaf language to us.

Mark this, it's not our ability but Christ's. So we shouldn't count it as our working but his working in us. It is God who is able to do exceedingly, above all according to the power that works in us. (Ephesians 3:20) God through Christ has graciously set us free from the power of sin and made us slaves to righteousness. (Romans 6:18). No boasting in our human ability!

Therefore, he who continues in sins, proves that he is still under the dictatorship of king sin and is still a slave to him. He has not crossed from death to life with a new life in Christ Jesus, a life which is under grace that gives liberty and freedom from the power and rulership of king sin.

It’s only under grace that we are safe from sin’s dominion! “For sin shall not [any longer] exert dominion over you, since now you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God's favor and mercy].” Says Apostle Paul the Apostle of God’s Grace!

WASHED FROM INSIDE-OUT
(Tue 2nd April 2019)

Badega N. Alex

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, pretenders (hypocrites)! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but within they are full of extortion (prey, spoil, plunder) and grasping self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and of the plate, so that the outside may be clean also. (Matthew 23:25-26 AMP)

The above scripture is derived from one of the most interesting speeches that Jesus ever made. It seems like a confrontation against the Pharisee and Sadducee but Jesus’ intention here is to bring to their understanding that God’s basis of Judgment is far different from human judgment. While men look or base their judgment on the outside appearance, God looks and judges according to the inside state of a man’s heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)

Almost the whole of chapter 23, Jesus endeavors to disclose the hypocritical lifestyle of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Although they were considered to be the most religious and respected sects in the society, Jesus teaches people that they should do what the Pharisees and Sadducees teach them but they must not follow their life example.

Humans focus so much on the outside appearance of people. We judge people on the basis of how we see them from the outside. We base on their outside performance, the good things they do, how prayerful they are, how much they attend church meetings, how gifted they are, how they help the poor, how big their ministries are, how rich materially they appear, how they speak in public meetings etc… And when we see that, we call them the most blessed, holy and righteous of all. Jesus looks at them and says, “You white washed tombs…!” Vs 27.

It’s not all about how a person appears to be in the public that qualifies him before God, it is how God sees him from the inside that matters. With Him there’s no pretense! That’s why Jesus once said that, “tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you!” (Matthew 21:31-32). Be careful how you judge, for the same measure will be set for you. (Matthew 7:2)

He who has genuinely believed on the Lord Jesus has been cleansed inside-out. It’s Christ who begins the good work in us and it’s Him who accomplishes it. (Phil 1:6) The life we live is the result of He who lives inside us. It’s not how we try to impress people from the outside. It’s about the relationship we have with the one who lives in us. Therefore, Christ who is in us, is the only hope we have for our glorification. I may appear imperfect outside, but I’m fully convinced that I’m perfect in Him from inside by His righteousness. With time, the outside also will cooperate!

“Wash the inside of the cup and the plate and the outside will be clean” says Jesus!

THE ONLY TEACHER OF GODLINESS!

“For the grace of God (His unmerited favor and blessing) has come forward (appeared) for the deliverance from sin and the eternal salvation for all mankind. It has trained us to reject and renounce all ungodliness (irreligion) and worldly (passionate) desires, to live discreet (temperate, self-controlled), upright, devout (spiritually whole) lives in this present world,” Titus‬ ‭2:11-12‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬

The greatest fear and critics against people who preach the gospel of the Grace of God is that they give people a license to sin, yet man doesn't need such a license because he's naturally sinful. Actually I’d say that, such accusations are proofs that the true gospel has been perfectly presented. For the Gospel as presented by Apostle Paul, leaves you face to face with the pure Grace of God. It may scandalize or revolutionize you but it will never leave you passive.

Why criticism then? Mainly because grace seems to be "a too good to be true" gospel. Someone may ask, “why then would an eternal God do something good that fits in the understanding of mortal men?" The love of God is beyond measure!

Our theme scripture gives us the right interpretation of the word "grace" in its Greek definition as “God's unmerited favor and blessedness”.

Secondly, Apostle Paul in the same verse presents Grace as having "come forward" or "appeared", in order to portray Grace personified.

Apostle John the beloved gives us the same expression of Grace. In John 1:14, 16; he talks about Christ's "appearing" as one full of “grace and truth”.

Therefore Grace isn't a doctrine but Jesus Christ Himself. That's why it's only the gospel of the Grace of God that is 100% Christ centered. It's Grace that portrays the true essence of the AGAPE of God the Father.

Any criticism against those who preach Grace are unknowingly or ignorantly throwing critics against Jesus Himself. Those who reject the message of Grace are ignorantly rejecting Christ Himself. Yet as Apostle Paul said, it's only grace that is able to teach us godliness in this present world. We rest on this truth!

If what God did for you through Christ doesn't go beyond your thinking capacity, if it doesn't exceed your ability to add to it an inch of your works, if it doesn't leave you in awe of His great and unconditional Love where by you don't comprehend the how and why he did it for you, you haven't understood the price of your redemption.

We are convinced that it's His Love that graciously compels and constrains us to live a godly lifestyle (2 Cor 5:14). It's not the fear of hell and the punishment from God, not even our carefulness and our ability to keep ourselves right as some may assume, but the understanding that “he who has been forgiven much, loves much” (Luke 7:47).

“Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].” Hebrews‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬

NO LAW, NO SIN IMPUTATION!

B.N. Alex

“[To be sure] sin was in the world before ever the Law was given, but sin is not charged to men's account where there is no law [to transgress].”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:13‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

There are always challenges when someone shares the gospel of Jesus Christ concerning His finished work on the cross. One of them is that most times people tend to relate or confuse the "After the cross" realities with the "before the Cross" shadows, not realizing that the substance is far greater than the shadow which predicts it.

In our theme scripture, Apostle Paul reveals to us what happened before the law was given to Moses. He tells us that sin was never accounted or imputed on anyone before the law came. Interesting, isn't it?

We all know that it's impossible to sue a person for an action which doesn't appear in any state governing laws or constitution as a crime. Where the law is silent, the crime is insignificant.

Someone may ask, "why is it then that we see people dying before the coming of the law?"

Good question! Apostle Paul answers that question in the previous verse
(Vs 12). People died not because of their sins but because of the sin of ONE Man (Adam).

Get this "ONE" principal. In God's court, ONE man represents all. If ONE fails, ALL fail and if ONE wins, ALL win. No favoritism with Him!
Romans 5:12-21.

By the way, before the law came, people had no scriptures or rule of conducts to guide them. They only depended on angelic ministrations that appeared to some of them once in a while. (I'll expound on this next time).

The law came in later as a school master or guardian to bring us to the death of Jesus on the Cross, which would usher us into a new era, not of a written code of laws but of the justification ONLY through Faith in Christ's finished work on the cross. Galatians 3:24

“For Christ is the end of the Law [the limit at which it ceases to be, for the Law leads up to Him Who is the fulfillment of its types, and in Him the purpose which it was designed to accomplish is fulfilled. That is, the purpose of the Law is fulfilled in Him] as the means of righteousness (right relationship to God) for everyone who trusts in and adheres to and relies on Him.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:4‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

The period before the law was the type shadowing our time. Since the law ended on the cross, we ought not to count sin on anyone who has Faith in Christ.

While some people are continuously sin conscious, others are enjoying their liberty in Christ, not considering themselves still alive to sin but already dead to it and alive to God through Christ.
Romans 6:11

SEATED IN HEAVEN, WALKING ON EARTH!

Due to our human limitedness in spiritual insights into the divine oracles, heaven is biblically portrayed not as a spiritual realm around us but as a place above our heads hence the use of terms such descend and ascend. God is omnipresent!

That's why we find it difficult to understand scriptures such as Eph 2:6 and Col 3:3 yet the bible can't lie.

It was Jesus who first Walked on earth while in the bosom of the Father at the same time. That's why He could make statements like, "The Son can only do what He sees His Father doing...!" John 5:19.

The "IN CHRIST" realities reveals that we are jointly seated with Him in heaven at the right hand of the Father yet we walk on earth bodily. While some people wait for rupture to enter heaven, some of us are already enjoy heaven presently.

MINISTERS OF LIFE NOT DEATH!

According to the revelation of the mystery of Christ given to Apostle Paul, there are two distinct ministries based on two distinct covenants.
One is considered a ministry of death and condemnation while the other is considered a ministry of life and justification.
2 Corinthians 3:6-9.

Due to lack of right division of the word, many minsters fail to distinguish between the two, and end up ministering death rather than life. Some try to mix the two without realizing that the the old wineskin can't contain the new wine. 2 Timothy 2:15; Matthew 9:14-17.

As students of the word of God, we need to be able to distinguish between predictions and fulfillments, before the cross and after, the plan and it's accomplishment, the law and grace. If not, we will never understand the difference between the two ministries, thus ministering death instead of life. "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." John 1:17 (KJV)

Christ is the end of the law for he fulfilled it all and nailed of on the cross, thus abolishing it with all its requirements and regulations.
Romans 10:4; Colossians 2:14;
Ephesians 2:15.

If the message you're preaching or hearing doesn't overwhelm you with the excessive and exceeding love of God, creating unspeakable joy and happiness deep down inside your heart, that's not THE GOSPEL but ANOTHER GOSPEL which actually isn't a gospel but a religious traditional teaching that draws a curse on him who preaches it and kills the one who hears it. Galatians 1:6-9

"He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life”. 2 Corinthians 3:6 NLT
