Today we honour the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, to which the month of September is dedicated to

The seven swords that pierced Our Lady’s heart are:

🗡️ Simeon’s Prophecy
🗡️ The flight into Egypt
🗡️ The three days loss in the temple
🗡️ Meeting Jesus with His cross
🗡️ The crucifixion
🗡️ Taking Jesus down from the cross
🗡️ The burial of Jesus

AND Our Lady grants seven graces to the souls who honor her daily by meditating (i.e. mental prayer) on her seven sorrows (dolors). The Hail Mary is prayed seven times, once after each meditation.

"I will grant peace to their families."

"They will be enlightened about the Divine Mysteries."

"I will console them in their pains and I will accompany them in their work."

"I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my Divine Son or the sanctification of their souls."

"I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives."

"I will visibly help them at the moment of their death. They will see the face of their Mother."

"I have obtained this grace from my divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors, will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son and I will be their eternal consolation and joy."

Happy feast of the Nativity of our blessed mother!

Here are some fun things you can do today to celebrate 🥳

🌹 Go for Mass! Although the Sunday liturgy takes precedence today, there’s nothing like celebrating a loved one’s by attending Mass with them. There’s Mass in Igreja de Madalena at 11:15 A.M. and Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação at 5:30 P.M.
🌹 bake a cake 🎂
🌹 decorate your home altar with roses for Mary
🌹 pray the rosary. The quickest way to heaven is through the intercession of Mary 💙
🌹 wear blue for Mary!

We’ve got a public holiday on 15/8! But why? 🤔

It’s to celebrate the Assumption of Mary into heaven. It is a dogmatic feast of the Catholic Church that teaches that the Virgin Mary was taken up into heaven, both body and soul, at the end of her earthly life.

In 1950, Pope Pius XII formally defined this belief as a dogma in the Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus. It remains to be one of the most important Marian feasts in the Catholic Church and is a holy day of obligation (hence the holiday 🥳).

We usually don’t have a Mass in English on feast days here, so don’t miss out! See you this Thursday at 11:30 AM. And bring a friend!
