When Armenians find themselves away from home, the first thing they usually look for is a church, a community, or at least an Armenian restaurant. 🧐

In the same way, many of us arriving in Porto came across Rua da Arménia online. But how many of us actually know the story behind one of the city’s oldest streets? And what does Saint Pantaleon have to do with it?

After reading articles, forums, and posts in different languages, we tried to put together the most complete picture we could in these cards.

The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by His Eminence Khajag Barsamian. After the service, we invite everyone to gather for an evening filled with traditional food, music, fun activities, and entertainment for both children and adults.

Սիրելի՛ հայ մանուկներ, հայոց աշխարհի և սփյուռքի պայծառ ծաղիկներ և մեր մատաղ սերունդ։ Երեխաների պաշտպանության միջազգային օրվա՝ Մանուկների տոնի առթիվ, հայրական սիրով և հոգևոր խնդությամբ բերում եմ ձեզ իմ օրհնությունն ու բարեմաղթանքները: Մեր Տերը՝ Հիսուս Քրիստոս, առանձնակի սիրով ու գորովանքով էր վերաբերվում մանուկներին։ Նա գրկում էր նրանց, օրհնում և իր աշակերտներին պատգամում. «Թո՛ւյլ տվեք այդ մանուկներին և մի՛ արգելեք, որ գան ինձ մոտ, որովհետև երկնքի արքայությունն այդպիսիներինն է» (Մատթ. 19:14): Դուք եք երկնքի արքայության պատկերը երկրի վրա՝ ձեր մաքրությամբ, անկեղծությամբ ու անարատ հոգով։ Դուք մեր եկեղեցու, մեր հայրենիքի և յուրաքանչյուր հայ օջախի լույսն ու ապագան եք։ Ձեր ժպիտներով է ջերմանում հայոց աշխարհը, և ձեր անմեղ աղոթքներով է զորանում մեր երկիրը։ Աղոթում եմ առ Բարձրյալն Աստված, որպեսզի Իր Ամենախնամ Աջի հովանու ներքո խաղաղ ու անհոգ պահի ձեր մանկությունը։ Թող ձեր կյանքը միշտ լինի խաղաղ, ձեր օջախները՝ լեցուն սիրով, և դուք մեծանաք աստվածասիրությամբ, հայրենասիրությամբ ու արժանավայել քրիստոնեական դաստիարակությամբ։ Պահպանեցե՛ք ձեր հոգու մաքրությունը, եղե՛ք լսող ու հնազանդ ձեր ծնողներին, ուսումնատենչ ու ջանասեր՝ ձեր ուսման մեջ։ Տիրոջ սերն ու շնորհները, Սուրբ Աստվածածնի բարեխոսությունն ու պահապան հրեշտակների առաջնորդությունը թող միշտ անպակաս լինեն ձեզնից և աշխարհի բոլոր մանուկներից: Օրհնյա՛լ լինեք դուք, սիրելի՛ բալիկներ, այսօր և հավիտյան։ Ամեն

“Havun Havun” — a traditional Armenian sharakan (liturgical hymn) about spiritual awakening and the coming of divine light, attributed to Gregory of Narek. The piece reflects themes of renewal, vigilance, and the soul’s readiness to receive Christ. This arrangement is by Robert Atayan, performed by Ophelia Nanagulyan in Porto.

Easter Liturgy took place in Lisbon on April 12. The service was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Toros Esaian. For the first time, our newly formed choir performed during the liturgy. Nearly two months of experimental online rehearsals truly paid off.

Rev. Father Toros visited Porto and met with fellow Armenians. Due to unexpected circumstances, the service was canceled, but we still gathered together. We shared a meal, got to know each other better, and had the opportunity to ask questions and reflect together.

✨️ During these festive days, you are also welcome to invite priests to your home to offer a blessing service.
