“Havun Havun” — a traditional Armenian sharakan (liturgical hymn) about spiritual awakening and the coming of divine light, attributed to Gregory of Narek. The piece reflects themes of renewal, vigilance, and the soul’s readiness to receive Christ. This arrangement is by Robert Atayan, performed by Ophelia Nanagulyan in Porto.

Easter Liturgy took place in Lisbon on April 12. The service was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Toros Esaian. For the first time, our newly formed choir performed during the liturgy. Nearly two months of experimental online rehearsals truly paid off.

Rev. Father Toros visited Porto and met with fellow Armenians. Due to unexpected circumstances, the service was canceled, but we still gathered together. We shared a meal, got to know each other better, and had the opportunity to ask questions and reflect together.

First time at an ecumenical prayer service in Porto ✨

On January 21, members of our parish council attended a service at Porto Cathedral as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (18–25 January), organized by the Ecumenical Commission of Porto.

The service was themed “Light from Light to Light,” inspired by the Nicene–Constantinopolitan Creed. This year, the liturgical text for the global celebration was prepared by the Armenian Churches. Prayers were offered, including those of the holy fathers of the Armenian Apostolic Church — Saint Gregory of Narek and Saint Nerses the Gracious. We also remembered the Armenian people, who became witnesses of the Light of Christ through the first Armenian Illuminator, Saint Gregory, in 301 AD.

It was a pleasure to meet and speak with members of the Commission, reaffirming the importance of their work in promoting unity, understanding, and cooperation among Christian communities.

We are grateful to God and all Christian communities and Churches for the opportunity to take part in the service and experience the warmth and love of our brothers and sisters in Christ. ✝️

His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian has devoted his life to serving the Armenian Apostolic Church and its faithful around the world.

Born on July 4, 1951 in Arapkir, Turkey, he began his theological journey at the Holy Cross Seminary in Istanbul and continued at the Seminary of St. James in Jerusalem. Later, he deepened his studies in New York, Minneapolis, Oxford, and Rome.

Ordained priest in 1971 and elevated to Archimandrite in 1973, Archbishop Barsamian served Armenian communities in Turkey, the Middle East, and the United States. In 1990, he became Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, a position he held until 2018.

Since 2018, he serves as Pontifical Legate of Western Europe, representing the Armenian Church before the Holy See and guiding Armenian communities across Europe. His work spans pastoral care, education, humanitarian initiatives, and ecumenical dialogue, fostering unity among churches and preserving Armenian faith and heritage in the diaspora.

Archbishop Barsamian’s leadership inspires communities to stay connected to their spiritual roots, support one another, and build bridges across nations and traditions. His life reminds us that faith, culture, and service are inseparable — wherever Armenians are, their Church remains a home.
