Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) in Islam:
Angel Jibreel, or Gabriel in English, plays a pivotal role in Islamic theology, serving as the messenger of God and a conduit for divine revelations. His presence and interactions are documented throughout the Quran and Hadith, providing Muslims with insights into the celestial world and the communication between Allah and His chosen prophets.
1. Messenger of Revelation:
- Angel Jibreel is primarily known for delivering Allah's messages to the prophets. His most significant task was revealing the Quran, the holy book of Islam, to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over a period of 23 years. This process, known as the "revelation" or "Wahy," established a direct link between the earthly realm and the divine.
2. Appearance and Form:
- Descriptions of Angel Jibreel's appearance vary, but he is often depicted as a magnificent and awe-inspiring being with vast wings. In his interactions with prophets, Jibreel would assume a human form, as the true form of angels is beyond human comprehension.
3. Role in Prophetic Stories:
- Jibreel played a crucial role in conveying revelations to various prophets. He appeared to Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), Prophet Musa (Moses), and Prophet Isa (Jesus), among others, delivering specific messages and guidance tailored to each prophet's community and circumstances.
4. Announcing Prophethood:
- Jibreel announced the selection of individuals as prophets, signifying their divine mission. The moment of revelation often marked the beginning of a prophet's public ministry, and Jibreel's appearances were instrumental in establishing the legitimacy of the prophetic message.
5. Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr):
- Angel Jibreel is closely associated with Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree or Power, during the last ten nights of Ramadan. It is believed that on this night, Jibreel descends to Earth with the decree for the upcoming year and the fate of individuals.
