The Story of Prophet Nuh (A.S.)
(Based on the Qur'an)
After Prophet Adam (A.S.), people slowly forgot the message of Tawheed (oneness of Allah). They began worshipping idols named Wadd, Suwa’, Yaghuth, Ya’uq, and Nasr (Surah Nuh: 23). These idols were made in honor of righteous people, but later generations turned them into gods.
To guide people back to Allah, He sent Prophet Nuh (A.S.), the first messenger sent to mankind after Adam.
He preached for 950 years.
Surah Al-‘Ankabut (29:14)
Translation:
“And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years...”
Despite his long efforts, most of the people rejected him. He invited them with patience and love:
Surah Nuh (71:5)
Translation:
“He said, ‘My Lord, indeed I invited my people night and day.’”
They mocked him and refused to listen. Only a few poor people believed in him. When they kept denying, Prophet Nuh (A.S.) prayed:
Surah Nuh (71:26)
Translation:
“My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.”
Allah instructed him to build an Ark (ship):
Surah Hud (11:37)
Translation:
“And construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration...”
The people mocked him while he built the Ark. When the time came, water gushed from the earth and rain poured from the sky. The flood began. Prophet Nuh (A.S.) took the believers and a pair of every animal onto the Ark.
His son, who refused to believe, tried to escape by climbing a mountain.
Surah Hud (11:43)
Translation:
“[His son] said, ‘I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water.’ [Nuh] said, ‘There is no protector today from the decree of Allah except for whom He gives mercy.’”
The son drowned, and all disbelievers were destroyed. The Ark rested on Mount Judi after the flood.
Moral Lesson:
Patience, truthfulness, and trust in Allah will always be rewarded, no matter how long it takes. Allah supports the sincere and destroys arrogance and falsehood.
