The second day of the Women Leadership Retreat began with morning devotion, led by Seerat Kamal and team from Psalm 121. Reflecting on the Word of God in a beautiful environment reminds us of His endless promises and love that protects and guides us in all ways of our life.

Next, Miss. Amal Sarah led the session on Challenges faced by Women and Girls in the local and global context. She proposed several situations faced by the women of our society that were discussed in detail. Participants interacted greatly and shared examples and observations from daily life.

During the session, participants were given an opportunity to propose solution at personal, family, church and societal level that can be implemented for the alleviation and minimization of domestic abuse and other violations against women and girls in our Pakistani society. Miss. Sarah pondered upon the need of financial independence and sustainability as the core elements of making our women and girls empowered, cautious about their dignity and identity as an individual. This was a thought-provoking session and participants learnt and shared in a safe environment.

On second day, the participants prepared skits revolving around the problems faced by women and girls in society and proposed various solutions through these acts. A trip to Nathia Gali was organized for the participants on same day; followed with a bonfire night.

It is to share that the backbone of Women Development Services, Alice Garrick left us alone to be with the Lord on May 27. She served this department for more than 34 years with complete dedication and commitment. Words are short to describe anything!
To honor her life, a Thanksgiving Prayer will be held on 1st June 2024 at Central Cathedral of Praying Hands, Warris Road, Lahore at 5 pm. Remember us during this difficult time.

Continuing the “Knowing Yourself” series, WDS team visited Wesleyan School System, Satukatla on 16 May 2024 for conducting an activity with Middle school students on Emotional Intelligence. Miss Amar Zara led session, explaining components of Emotional Intelligence like Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Empathy, Motivation and Social Skills, along with useful skills and exercises that can be done to regulate our overwhelming emotions.

Miss Amal Sarah conducted activities on self-awareness and social skills. She also led an art activity in which students were allowed to explicitly express themselves around the term “Peace”; in which students actively participated and presented what they meant from what they drew or wrote.

This activity was quite interactive and helped a number 17 people to understand who they are. WDS is thankful to Ms. Zubaida Aster for helping us implement this activity with their students.
