Abdullah ibn Umar was once going out of Madeena with his companions. It was time to eat so they sat down to eat. A shepherd grazing some sheep passed by and greeted them with salaam. Ibn Umar invited him to eat with them but the shepherd said, “I’m fasting.”

Ibn Umar asked him out of surprise, “In this intense heat of summer with fiery hot winds blowing, while you are grazing the sheep in these mountains (are you fasting)?” The shepherd replied: “I am preparing the days of my past (Ayyaam-il-Khaaliya).” Ibn Umar decided to test him so he said: “We want to buy a sheep. We will pay the price and also give you some of the meat to break your fast with.” The shepherd replied, “These goats do not belong to me, I am a slave. They belong to my master.” Ibn Umar insisted, “How will your master find out? Tell him that a wolf ate it!”

The shepherd pointed to the sky and said: “Then where is Allah?” Ibn Umar said: “A shepherd says, ‘Where is Allah?!’”

When he (Abdullah ibn Umar) returned to Madeena and went to the master of this slave. He bought from him the slave and the goats, freed the slave, and gave the sheep to him as a gift.

“We were the most humiliated people on earth and Allah gave us honor through Islam. If we ever seek honor through anything else, Allah will humiliate us again”

And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The believer who mixes with people and endures their injury is better than the person who does not mix with people nor endure their injury."

Sahih (Al-Albani)

O Allah! Purify my heart from hypocrisy, my deeds from any kind of Ria (show off), my tongue from lying and my eye from treachery. For indeed only You know the treachery of the eyes and what lays hidden in the breasts. (Al-Baihaqi)

Let our hearts bond with Qur'aan in this blessed month. In between reciting and listening we often neglect understanding and pondering over this miracle of a book that Allah subhanahu wa ta'aala has revealed for our guidance, let's go a little deeper in understanding it this time. In Sha Allah

"The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful."

Al Baqarah verse: 185

Subhan Allah, four days of the blessed month have already passed! By now many of us have identified what we lack in our ibaadah. A good way to improve and maintain the procedure is to record it on daily basis. A notebook and a pen. Make graphs or charts to record your progress so by the end of the month we have something to look back on and remind our nafs to stay persistent Bi iznillahi ta'aalah.

It was narrated that Hudhayfah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said, “When the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went to bed at night, he would put his hand under his cheek, then say, ‘Allaahumma bismika amootu wa ahyaa (O Allaah, in Your name I die and I live).’ Then when he woke up he would say, ‘Al-hamdu Lillaah alladhi ahyaanaa ba’da ma amaatanaa wa ilayhi al-nushoor (Praise be to Allaah who has brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection).’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6314).

Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) intended to go to bed, he would recite: "Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya (With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live)." And when he woke up from his sleep, he would say: "Al-hamdu lil-lahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana; wa ilaihi an-nushur (All the Praises are for Allah Who has made us alive after He made us die (sleep) and unto Him is the Resurrection). "
