In a brutal massacre, 47 people, including children and several Christians were killed and over 50 were kidnapped by a gang, which is one of the largest mass kidnappings in Haiti in recent times. The violence that shocked the world occurred in Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti.

The brutality occurred in a once-peaceful community earlier this week. The leader of the gang later posted a video message on social media threatening that the captives would be murdered if any member of the gang was killed. The latest attacks have intensified fears over the vulnerability of the security system in the Caribbean country, which was earlier thought to be improving.

Meanwhile UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the heinous attack. In a statement issued through the Spokesman, António Guterres underscored the "alarming security conditions" in Haiti and called for augmented domestic and international security efforts. He also asked the Haitian authorities to "ensure that those responsible for such attacks are held accountable” also through the specialized judicial units, recently created with international support to investigate mass crimes.
