Do you ever look up at the sky because your heart cannot find the words?
For sixteen or seventeen months, the Prophet ﷺ prayed toward Bayt al-Maqdis—while longing for the Ka’bah to become the qiblah.
Yet he did not abandon the command he had been given.
He obeyed while he waited.
He submitted while he hoped.
And from time to time, he turned his blessed face toward the heavens, awaiting revelation.
Then Allah said:
“Indeed, We see you ˹O Prophet˺ turning your face towards heaven. Now We will make you turn towards a direction ˹of prayer˺ that will please you.” (Surah Al Baqarah 2:144)
Notice the tenderness of the verse.
Allah did not only know what His Messenger ď·ş wanted.
He noticed the movement of his face.
Before that longing was announced to the world, it was already seen by Allah.
And the answer was greater than a private wish: the direction of an entire Ummah was turned toward al-Masjid al-Haram.
This is the adab of hope:
Obey while you wait.
Remain surrendered while you long.
Do not force the answer—trust the One who already sees you searching the sky.
