(شریعت و طریقت)
مفتی محمود الحسن صاحب مفتی اعظم دارالعلوم دیوبند فتاویٰ محمودیہ میں تحریر فرماتے ہیں:
شریعت میں احکام ظاہرہ - نماز، روزہ، زکوٰة، حج، بیع وشراء اور نکاح وطلاق وغیرہ کے احکام بیان کئے جاتے ہیں۔ اور طریقت میں احکام باطنہ - صبر وشکر، رضا و تسلیم، تفویض و توکل اور اخلاص وغیرہ کے احکام بیان کئے جاتے ہیں۔ یعنی شریعت ظاہرکی اصلاح کرتی ہے،اور طریقت باطن کی اصلاح کرتی ہے۔ (فتاویٰ محمودیہ ،ج:۱)
دوسری جگہ حضرت نے تحریر فرمایا ہے: جو احکام انسان کے ظاہر سے متعلق ہوں وہ شریعت ہیں اور تربیت باطن کا نام طریقت ہے۔ یہ دونوں چیزیں ایک دوسرے کی ضد نہیں ہیں بلکہ معاون و مددگار ہیں۔ ان میں سے ایک کی تکمیل دوسرے سے ہوتی ہے۔ (فتاویٰ محمودیہ، ج:۱۵، ص: ۱۰۵)
