Our Miracle Baby, Evelyn – A Testimony of God’s Faithfulness
Today has been a truly special and sacred day for our family, as we dedicated our precious daughter, Evelyn, back to the Lord. Though we’ve waited a little while to share this story, we believe her dedication day is the perfect moment to declare the goodness of God. This is more than a testimony — it is a declaration that God is alive, He is faithful, and He still works miracles. I had the honour of sharing this today at Full Gospel Church in Dalkeith, and now I want to share it with our beloved Redwoods family and everyone who has stood with us in love and prayer. Evelyn’s life is a living witness to the power of prayer and the mercy of our God.
When my wife, Sobia, first discovered she was pregnant, our hearts were filled with joy and gratitude. But just a few weeks in, our faith was tested. One day while at work, Sobia suddenly felt unwell. She went to the washroom and saw blood and clots — a moment that brought fear and uncertainty into our hearts. She called me immediately, and we were both overwhelmed. Her colleagues quickly called an ambulance, and she was rushed to the hospital. I was still at work, unsure of what to do, but in that moment of helplessness, we turned to the only One who could help — we cried out to God.
And just like He has always done, God showed up. The doctors examined her and said the baby was fine. The heartbeat was strong. Nothing was wrong. That moment was the beginning of a journey of miracles. From that day, we called her our miracle baby, and we named her Evelyn, which means life and breath, because we knew it was God who was breathing life into her.
As the pregnancy progressed, more trials came. In the final trimester, Sobia’s blood pressure became dangerously high. Again and again, we found ourselves in the hospital. Eventually, the doctors made the decision to admit her and induce labor — it was a critical situation. And then came the most difficult part of all.
When Evelyn was born, there was no cry. She didn’t breathe for the first few minutes of her life — 4 long, terrifying minutes. As a father, watching this unfold, I cannot describe the fear in my heart. And as a mother, even in pain, Sobia’s only concern was Evelyn’s well-being. The doctors rushed her to the neonatal unit, where she stayed for two days. Sobia was recovering in one ward, Evelyn in another, and I was moving between them — praying, trusting, holding on to every promise of God.
But the challenges didn’t stop. Evelyn couldn’t feed. She didn’t know how to suck, and neither bottle feeding nor breastfeeding worked. Eventually, the doctors had to insert a feeding tube — something no parent ever wants to see. But once again, we turned to prayer. We reached out to our church and Redwoods family, and you stood with us. Your prayers reached heaven — and God answered. Gradually, Evelyn began to feed directly from her mother. Slowly, she gained strength and was finally moved into our room.
Later, the hospital shared the report with us. Evelyn had not breathed for the first four minutes of her life. Oxygen was administered, and after five to six minutes, she finally let out her first cry. That cry was not just a medical sign — it was a miracle. It was God’s breath filling her lungs. It was a second chance at life. God saved her twice — once in the womb, and once after birth.
And today, we testify with grateful hearts: Evelyn is now one month old, healthy, growing, and full of life. She was born at 3.4 kg and now weighs 4 kg — an active, alert, and joyful baby girl. Every smile, every sound, every moment is a reminder that our God is a God who answers prayer.
So today, as we dedicate Evelyn, we lift our hands and hearts in thanksgiving. We give all the glory to Jesus — the One who gives life, who sustains it, and who writes beautiful stories like this one. Evelyn’s life is a testimony of His mercy and grace. To all who are still waiting, still praying, still hoping — be encouraged: God is still doing miracles.
Thank you to our pastors, our church family, and our Redwoods family. Your love, support, and prayers have carried us through this season. May God bless you abundantly — and may Evelyn’s life always be a light that points back to His glory.
To God be all the glory. 🙏
