READ | An Excerpt from the Homily of Rev. Fr. Robert Boholst, SJ, during the Second Day of the Novena Mass in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

In his homily, Fr. Robert reminded us that having questions and doubts is part of being human. Faith does not mean understanding everything or having all the answers. Rather, it means continuing to trust God even when life feels uncertain and the answers seem far away.

“Faith does not mean having no questions. It is human to ask questions—the most difficult questions are the ones that will lead you to what is more important in life. If you run away from the questions you have in life, you'll not be able to have the direction that you are set to pursue. Ask difficult questions, but don't ask alone. Faith means that after asking our questions, we can still say, "Lord, I trust You.”

Reflecting on the day’s readings, Fr. Robert encouraged the faithful to turn to God in prayer, give thanks for life’s blessings, and trust Him with the things we cannot fully understand. He reminded us that prayer is more than a duty; it is a relationship with God that grows stronger each time we open our hearts and make time for Him.

We are also called to be grateful for what we have been given and to share God’s love through simple acts of kindness, compassion, and service. Like Our Lady of the Pilar, may we remain faithful and open to God’s will, trusting Him through every question, challenge, and uncertainty we encounter.

As we continue our novena journey, may we hold on to these words: “Lord, I trust You.” May this faith guide us in our prayers, our choices, and the way we care for one another each day.

READ | An Excerpt from the Homily of Archbishop Julius S. Tonel, D.D., during the First Day of the Novena Mass in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

“The shrine we dedicate today can serve a similar purpose: a place where people pause, discover anew that God is near, and carry that awareness with them.”

In his homily, Archbishop Tonel reminded the faithful that the shrine is more than a sacred place; it is a home where we can encounter God, find comfort in His presence, and grow closer to Him. He encouraged everyone to become “living stones” of the Church by living out their faith through prayer, unity, and service.

Through the loving example of Our Lady of the Pilar, we are reminded to open our hearts to God, bring our prayers and hopes to Him, and share His love with others. May our visits to the shrine strengthen our faith and inspire us to carry God’s presence into our homes, communities, and everyday lives.

As we continue our novena journey, may we carry this message in our hearts and allow it to guide us in our faith, prayer, and daily lives.

Statement of Sympathy to the Whole Ateneo De Zamboanga University Community

Juntos en Dolor, Firmes en Fe, Unidos por Justicia
(One in Grief, Steadfast in Faith, United for Justice)

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zamboanga stands in solidarity with the Jesuit community, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University family, and all those affected by the tragic shooting incident.

We join the entire ADZU community in profound grief over the loss of young lives and in deep concern for those who have been wounded, traumatized, and deeply affected by this tragedy.

We assure the learners, teachers, personnel, families, and the entire academic community of our prayers, presence, and solidarity as we journey toward healing and recovery. In this painful moment, may no one feel alone. The Catholic faithful of Zamboanga are one with you.

We continue to believe in the power of faith formation and catechesis in nurturing the hearts and minds of our young people and teachers, forming communities rooted in compassion, respect, dialogue, responsibility, and peace. Our schools must remain safe spaces—places where young people can learn, grow, discover their dignity, and become instruments of peace.

As we mourn, we also affirm our commitment to truth, justice, and accountability. The Catholic faithful stand with the victims and their families in seeking a thorough investigation and appropriate accountability. We pray that the authorities may be guided by wisdom, fairness, courage, and a sincere commitment to justice.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”— Psalm 34:18

May the Lord embrace those who mourn, comfort those who are afraid, heal those who are wounded, and strengthen those who carry the weight of this tragedy. May He grant eternal rest to those who have died and consolation and strength to their families.

In this moment of sorrow, we choose prayer over fear, compassion over condemnation, truth over speculation, and justice over vengeance.

On this special day, as we honor the Feast of the Patron of Parish Priests, we pause to reflect on the invaluable presence of our priests, their faithful service, spiritual guidance, and deep impact on our lives and communities.

Let us take this moment to express our gratitude and acknowledge the vital role they play in building and sustaining our faith.

We especially lift in prayer the clergy of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga, who have generously offered their lives in service to the Church and its people. May the Lord bless them abundantly, strengthen them in their ministry, and make them steadfast beacons of grace and wisdom for the faithful.

many more priests after your own heart.
May they be worthy representatives of Christ the Good Shepherd.

The parishoners gathered together to celebrate the Pontifical mass in honor of the Most Holy Trinity, presided by the Most Rev. Julius S. Tonel, D. D., Archbishop of Zamboanga, concelebrated by some of the clergy of Zamboanga.

After the mass, the faithfuls gathered together for a simple salo-salo prepared by the different Tolda Cristianas of the parish.
