HIGHLIGHTS | SINULOG 2026

On January 18, 2026, the faithful joyfully gathered at the Our Lady of Peñafrancia Parish for the sorey sought-after Sinulog 2026 celebration. The Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by our parish priest, Rev. Fr. Mercedito Salatan, brought the community together in heartfelt thanksgiving as we honored the Feast of Señor Sto. Niño. Following the 7:30 AM Mass, the celebration continued with a solemn yet vibrant procession, where the faithful publicly professed their devotion to the Holy Child. Youth from the different BEC chapels and parish groups filled the streets with life and color, wearing beautifully crafted costumes and carrying creative props as they danced the Sinulog, accompanied by the prayers and presence of the community. The youth from the parish and BEC chapels then presented their Sinulog performances, a testament to the dedication, unity, and faith poured into every step, gesture, and detail.

Beyond the music, movements, and festivities, the celebration invites us to rediscover the deeper meaning of our devotion to Señor Sto. Niño. It calls us to embrace a childlike heart: one that trusts without fear, hopes without limits, and believes with sincerity. In honoring the Holy Child, we are reminded that faith is lived not only through grand celebrations but also through humility, gratitude, and joyful obedience to God’s will. As we carry the spirit of Sinulog into the year ahead, may the Niño continue to guide us toward a faith that is simple, joyful, and steadfast.

WORDS OF HOPE | An Excerpt from Rev. Fr. Mercedito Salatan’s Homily on the New Year’s Mass

“We are to protect our children. We are called to be conscious that they are still vulnerable.”

The Eucharistic Celebration for New Year’s Eve, centered on the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, invited the faithful to reflect on the sacredness of family and life. In his homily, Rev. Fr. Mercedito Salatan gently yet firmly reminded parents, especially mothers, of the profound responsibility entrusted to them: to nurture, guide, and protect their children, who are God’s precious gifts and the hope of the world.

As we begin a new year under the loving mantle of Mary, we are called to mirror her compassion, courage, and unwavering love. Father Merck’s words challenge us to be more attentive and intentional in caring for the young, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In doing so, we help shape a future rooted in faith, love, and responsibility, ensuring that our children grow in an environment where they are valued, safeguarded, and guided toward God’s light.

HIGHLIGHTS | PARISH FAMILY DAY 2025

Last December 27, 2025, the Our Lady of Peñafrancia Parish came alive with joy and fellowship as parishioners from the different chapels gathered for Parish Family Day. The day began with registration, followed by a meaningful Eucharistic Celebration that united everyone in faith. Laughter and excitement filled the parish grounds through fun games, raffles, and generous giveaways, making the celebration even more memorable.

More than just a day of activities, Family Day reminds us that the parish is one family in Christ, called to grow together in love, faith, and service. Through moments of prayer, joy, and togetherness, we are reminded that strong families build a strong Church, where each member is valued, supported, and united by God’s grace.

‎WORDS OF HOPE | An Excerpt from Rev. Fr. Mercedito Salatan’s Homily on the Christmas Eve Mass

‎"Christmas is about Jesus. Christmas is about the plan of the Father to send Jesus, for us to be saved."

‎Father Merck's words remind us that Christmas is not merely a celebration, but a profound reflection of God’s boundless love. In the gift of Jesus, we are offered salvation, hope, and new life. As we celebrate this holy season, may we open our hearts to Christ and live out the true meaning of Christmas through faith, love, and service to one another.

HIGHLIGHTS | MISA DE GALLO 2025: SEVENTH DAY

As dawn broke on December 22 at exactly 4:00 A.M., the community gathered in faith to mark the Seventh Day of the Misa de Gallo. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Mercedito Salatan. Parishioners came together with hearts full of devotion, deepening their faith and continuing their commitment to complete the sacred nine-day Misa de Gallo tradition.

In his homily, Fr. Mercedito reflected on something that brings genuine happiness—contentment. He reminded everyone that happiness is a deliberate choice, and one way to attain it is by being content with what we have. May these words find a place in our hearts, inspiring us to nurture joy and contentment in our own lives.

HIGHLIGHTS | MISA DE GALLO 2025: SIXTH DAY

Earlier yesterday, the faithful were invited to reflect on the Gospel according to Matthew, which recounts the humble and miraculous beginnings of the birth of Jesus Christ. The Eucharistic celebration, held at 4:00 AM, was presided over by our Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Mercedito Salatan.

In this passage, we are reminded of Joseph’s righteousness, courage, and trust in God’s will, as well as the fulfillment of the prophecy that the Virgin would bear a son—Emmanuel, “God with us.” This Gospel invites us to overcome fear, trust in God’s plan, and respond with faithful obedience.

May this reflection strengthen our faith as we prepare our hearts to welcome Christ, our Savior.
