𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐀 | About the Image of Our Lady of Purification

The life-size statue of Our Lady of the Purification with the Child Jesus stands prominently beneath the crucifixion on the main altar of Sta. Maria Parish Church. It represents two biblical events that occurred simultaneously: the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple, as recorded in Luke 2:22–24, in accordance with the Law of Moses (Leviticus 12:2–6; Exodus 13:14–16).

The statue is also known as Our Lady of Candles or, from its Spanish origin, Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. This title reflects the belief that Mary offered Christ—“the flesh of her flesh”—for the salvation of the world. Through sharing in His passion, Mary endured a profound spiritual martyrdom. According to Church tradition, she received the highest glory among martyrs after Christ Himself, symbolized by her shining like a candle in glorious martyrdom.

We joyfully invite everyone to celebrate Viva Pit Señor in honor of Señor Sto. Niño at Our Lady of Purification Parish, Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City. After the Holy Mass, there will be a Blessing of Images, Bibles, and Children, followed by a joyful Sinulog Dance. Let us come together in faith and thanksgiving as one community. Everyone is encouraged to wear red or yellow shirts. Come and join us! Sto. Niño, pray for us.

6:00am Procession in Honor of Sr. Sto. Niño
7:30am Fiesta Mass

The Ministry of Knights of the Altar of Our Lady of Purification Parish joyfully celebrated its Christmas Party, highlighted by fun and meaningful team building games that strengthened fellowship and unity among the members.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our very supportive Parish Administrator, Fr. Armand Aquino , for his full and unwavering support to the ministry. Your guidance, encouragement and generosity played a big role in making this Christmas celebration truly successful. Thank you so much, Father.♥️

We likewise express our sincere appreciation to all our benefactors and specially our alumni members of the ministry for their generous donations and continued support. Through your kindness, this Christmas gathering was made meaningful and memorable for all.

The Parish is inviting young people who are willing to grow in faith and serve the Church to join our Parish Youth Ministry.

✨ Who Can Join?

We are looking for youth who meet the following:

🔹 Age Requirement:
• 12–40 years old
• Not married
• No children

🔹 Spiritual Foundation:
• Has a good foundation in prayer and spirituality
• Willing to grow deeper in faith

🔹 Personal Qualities:
• Can work well with others
• Willing to learn and also teach
• Committed and dedicated, especially to parish activities

🔹 Moral Character:
• Does not engage in illegal, immoral acts, or vices
