SUNOG SALA 2026 😇

St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish observed the Sunog-Sala, transforming the blessed palms into ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Through this sacred tradition, we are reminded to turn away from sin, embrace humility, and open our hearts to God’s mercy as we enter the holy season of Lent.

Elements of the Official Coat of Arms of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar de Zamboanga.

Designed by Auxulium Heraldic Arts by Rev. Mons. John Bañas Brillantes, P.C., and shall be the corporate and legal emblem of the shrine with the following elements retained thereof:

BLUE FIELD AND THE GOLDEN VASE OF WHITE LILIES ON TOP OF THE PILLAR, CROWNED WITH TWELVE GOLDEN STARS: Symbolizes the Virgen del Pilar. The Blessed Virgin Mary is referred to in the Litany of Loreto as the Spiritual Vessel, Vessel of Honor, and the Singular Vessel of Devotion. She is also called the Lily of Purity. In Revelation 12:1, she is described as being “clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” In her icon in Fort del Pilar de Zamboanga, she is depicted as standing on a pillar.

TWO CANDLES FLANKING THE PILLAR: It represents the popular expression of devotion of the Virgen del Pilar’s devotees, that is, the offering of candles at her shrine in Fort del Pilar.

CANONICAL CROWN: Surmounting the shield is the canonical crown granted to the bas-relief image of Our Lady of the Pillar on October 12, 1960.

CRENELATE AND BRICK: The crenelate (embattled) brick (masoned) border symbolizes Fort del Pilar, where the Blessed Virgin is enshrined.

The year 1734 is the year the bas-relief of the sacred image of the Virgen del Pilar was enshrined above the eastern wall of the fort.

IN HONOR OF NUESTRA SEÑORA | The faithful of Zamboanga gathered in great devotion for the celebration of the First Mass of the nine-day Novena.

The liturgy, presided over by Rev. Fr. Jovelito Palermo, commenced with a solemn procession from the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Pillar, an annual tradition in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, the patroness of Zamboanga.

Prayer:

Lord, God Almighty, who hast deigned to place your mother, the ever Virgin Mary, on a pedestal to be our perpetual succor and comfort in the hour of our need, grant we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord, through the intercession of Your dear Mother, what we fervently ask of Thee in her name. Amen.
