Memorial of the Passion and Death of St. John the Baptist.
St. John the Baptist was a courageous prophet who prepared the way for Jesus Christ. He fearlessly spoke the truth, even when it was difficult or dangerous.
John openly challenged King Herod because Herod had taken Herodias, his brother's wife, contrary to God's law. Because of this, John was imprisoned. During a celebration, Herodias's daughter danced before the king, and Herod made a promise that ultimately led to John's death. At Herodias's request, John was executed.
St. John did not die because he sought conflict; he died because he remained faithful to God's truth. His martyrdom reminds us that following Christ requires courage, honesty, and faithfulness—even when doing what is right is difficult.
Prayer:
Lord, give me the courage of St. John the Baptist, so that I may speak the truth with love, remain faithful to You, and never be afraid to stand for what is right. Amen.
