Memorial of the Passion and Death of St. John the Baptist.

St. John the Baptist was a courageous prophet who prepared the way for Jesus Christ. He fearlessly spoke the truth, even when it was difficult or dangerous.

John openly challenged King Herod because Herod had taken Herodias, his brother's wife, contrary to God's law. Because of this, John was imprisoned. During a celebration, Herodias's daughter danced before the king, and Herod made a promise that ultimately led to John's death. At Herodias's request, John was executed.

St. John did not die because he sought conflict; he died because he remained faithful to God's truth. His martyrdom reminds us that following Christ requires courage, honesty, and faithfulness—even when doing what is right is difficult.

Prayer:
Lord, give me the courage of St. John the Baptist, so that I may speak the truth with love, remain faithful to You, and never be afraid to stand for what is right. Amen.

Feast of St. Augustine
of Hippo,

St. Augustine of Hippo, is one of the greatest saints and teachers of the Catholic Church. Feast Day: August 28 Who was St. Augustine? Born in 354 AD in Thagaste, North Africa. He lived a troubled and searching life in his youth. Through the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, and the guidance of St. Ambrose, he experienced a profound conversion.
He became a priest and later Bishop of Hippo.
He wrote important works such as Confessions and The City of God.
He died in 430 AD.

Prayer:
St. Augustine,
you searched for truth and found your heart's true rest in God.
Help us to seek God sincerely, to turn away from sin, and to grow deeper in faith and love.
Guide us, especially
when we feel lost or discouraged, so that we may always return to God.
Pray for us and help us serve the Lord faithfully.
Amen.

“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You, O Lord.” — St. Augustine

Memorial of St. Monica

Today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Monica, the mother of St. Augustine of Hippo.
St. Monica is remembered for her deep faith, patient love, perseverance, and constant prayer. For many years, she prayed for the conversion of her son Augustine, never giving up hope even when he seemed far from God. Her prayers and faithful example eventually bore fruit: Augustine became a great Christian, priest, bishop, and Doctor of the Church.

Reflection:
St. Monica teaches us that prayer requires patience and trust in God's timing. Sometimes we pray for our families, friends, or loved ones and do not immediately see change. Monica reminds us not to lose hope.
Her life tells us: keep praying, keep loving, and keep trusting God. Our prayers may seem unanswered today, but God is always working in ways we cannot see.

Prayer: to St. Monica
St. Monica, woman of faith and perseverance, pray for us. Help us to remain faithful in times of difficulty and to never lose hope in God's mercy. Teach us to pray patiently for our families and loved ones. May our lives become an example of faith, love, and service. Lead us closer to Christ and help us trust God's plan for us. Amen.

Feast of St. Bartholomew, Apostle

Today we celebrate St. Bartholomew, one of the Twelve Apostles, traditionally identified with Nathanael in the Gospel of John.

Jesus recognized his sincere heart and said:

“Here is a true Israelite. There is no deceit in him.” — John 1:47

St. Bartholomew followed Christ faithfully and courageously proclaimed the Gospel. His life reminds us to be honest in heart, steadfast in faith, and unafraid to witness to Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You called St. Bartholomew to be one of Your Apostles and gave him the grace to follow You faithfully. Through his intercession, help us to be sincere in heart, steadfast in faith, and courageous in sharing Your Gospel. Amen.

St. Bartholomew, Apostle, pray for us.

August 23, 2026
21st Sunday in Ordinary Time.

The Gospel today invites us to answer one of the most important questions of our faith: “Who do you say that I am?” Jesus does not simply ask what other people think about Him. He asks each one of us personally: Who is Jesus in my life?

Peter answers with faith: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” This confession shows that Peter recognizes Jesus not merely as a teacher or prophet, but as the Savior sent by God.
Jesus then gives Peter a mission: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.” Peter was not perfect, but Jesus trusted him and called him to serve. This reminds us that God does not call only perfect people. He calls ordinary people who are willing to believe, serve, and grow in faith.

For us, especially in our service to the Church, this Gospel is a reminder that our ministry is not simply a responsibility—it is an expression of our faith and love for Christ. Like Peter, we are called to stand firmly in faith and to become examples of service, humility, obedience, and love.

As a ministry servers and servants of the Church, we can ask ourselves: Do my actions show that Jesus is truly important in my life? Do I serve only when it is convenient, or do I serve with a sincere and faithful heart?

May we always remember that Jesus is the center of our service. May our words, actions, and example lead others closer to Him.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Strengthen my faith and help me to know You more deeply. Teach me to serve You with humility, love, and dedication. Like Peter, may I have the courage to remain faithful even when life is difficult. Make my service a true expression of my love for You and for Your Church. Amen.
