Text: Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Yesterday’s service was not just meant for us to be reminded of the Word of God as a congregation but to also be reminded of what Jesus has done for us. We praise the Lord for this first Sunday worship service for the month of August, for the lives of His people, and for all that He has done! This month we are on the part 3 of the series “Walking Close to Jesus: Becoming like Christ.” Yesterday, our topic was Thinking like Christ inspired from the scripture mentioned above where we have learned on how we can develop a mind of Christ.

Thinking like Christ means yielding ourselves to the Holy Spirit. We do not just merely think about Jesus but we think like Jesus. Just as Jesus humbled Himself to the point of His death on the cross, so should we think like Him in a way of living our lives humbly. Humility is not denying who we are but using who we are for the glory of God and the good of others. For a believer begins to think like Christ when God’s glory becomes more evident in his/her life.

Christ did not think of Himself highly than others. Instead, He humbled himself and even washed the feet of His disciples. The Lord of glory became the servant of all. May we also forget whatever position that we have in this world and remember our identity in the Lord then we will be able to think like Christ. Let us not ask ourselves what we want, what we deserve, or what’s best for us. Instead, let’s ask ourselves what God wants for us, what God thinks as best for us, and what God deserves from us.

It was not easy when Jesus who modeled obedience to us because He had to suffer from sins that He did not even commit. He was innocent, without blemish, and without sin. Yet, He still did it anyway. It is just the same when we want to obey the Lord. It will not always be easy, a lot of times it brings tears, sufferings, pain, but at the end of the day it will reveal God’s perfect will for us. Let us not ask of what’s convenient for us. But ask what springs from compassion that will surely please the Lord.

The mind of Christ embraces humility before honor. The mind of Christ embraces surrender before self. The mind of Christ embraces obedience before comfort. May we find it not hard to live a life of humbleness, surrender, and obedience to the Lord.

Every fellowship that God creates for us believers is a great opportunity for all to walk closely with Him. This day we ended our series for the month of July about “A closer walk with Jesus.” And for the last topic of these series, we praise God for the life of His messenger who preached to us His Word with clarity and authority coming from the Lord. We were reminded that God desires our hearts before our hands. In the scripture that we have delved today, we understood that God is not after our hands, but He is after our hearts.

Just like Mary she understood that before she can serve Jesus, she needs to know Him first. She chose to do the good part and that is to spend her time with Jesus rather than to be like Martha who was busy preparing to do things and didn’t pay attention to the Lord’s teaching. We must remember that a believer who desires to walk closely with Jesus must make His presence the highest priority of life. Intimacy requires intentional time in His presence. We must always meet with Jesus in a place of humility, learning, and surrender daily.

Also, a close walk pays attention to the voice of Jesus. In the world that we are in is filled with different voices. Such as voices of fear, culture, social media, and even the voices of personal ambition. It makes us busy and makes us feel that if we hustle more then maybe we can achieve what we want. However, Jesus wants us to listen to Him and give our undivided attention in Him. Church, intimacy grows when we listen more rather than when we speak. May we be filled with the voice from Word rather than the voices from the world.

Lastly, a close walk with Jesus prefers eternal fellowship rather than earthly busyness. Again, Martha was so busy preparing something to serve for the Lord Jesus Christ while Mary chose to have fellowship with Jesus because she knows that it has more eternal value than any preparations than any man can ever do. Mary chose the good part! As Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” May we become like Mary who’s very careful not to serve Jesus with her hands but with her utmost heart!

Today, we praise and thank the Lord for what He reminded us about how we ought to walk in obedience to Jesus. We praise the Lord for the life of our speaker who preached to us the Word of God boldly. Indeed! Obedience is not the price we pay to earn the love of God. It is the evidence that we truly love Him. According to Jesus, love is not first measured by emotion but by obedience. So we would like to share to you these three truths;

First, a close walk receives the Word of Jesus. Before anyone can obey Christ, they must first receive His Word. God's Word is like a prescription for our souls. A prescription only helps the patient who accepts it. It may contain the cure. But unless it is received and followed, healing never comes.

Second, a close walk responds through obedience to Jesus. Knowledge without obedience produces pride. However, knowledge with obedience produces maturity. Obedience often involves difficult choices like serving when you're tired and trusting even when circumstances are uncertain. But, every step of our obedience declares, "Jesus, I trust You more than I trust myself."

Lastly, a close walk reveals the presence of Jesus. An obedient believer enjoys a closeness with Christ that cannot be manufactured by emotion alone. Every step of obedience brings a clearer view of Christ. The pathway to deeper intimacy is not merely asking for more experiences. It is faithfully obeying the truth we already know.

We praise and thank the Lord for another opportunity that He gave for us to gather today in His sanctuary freely! Praise be to God for using the life of His messenger who spoke God’s Word to us with all authority reminding us on how we could walk in the Spirit sensitively.

We were reminded that many believers spend their day as if God is not present, trying not be sensitive of God’s still small voice. A close walk with Jesus begins by recognizing that He is always with us. He permanently dwells within every believer. Hence, God is always present. When we are facing temptations, challenges, or any adversaries in our walk with God, may we always remember His presence.

We are not on our own. We should always be sensitive of the Holy Spirit, for a sensitive believer responds quickly because delayed obedience often becomes disobedience. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God (Romans 8:14). Sensitivity is demonstrated by obedience.

A close walk reflect the character of the Holy Spirit. Walking in the Spirit always produces visible transformation. Paul does not measure spirituality by gifts or outward activity because sensitivity is proven by transformation. May we all listen to the Holy Spirit each and everyday so that people should see in us more love, more joy, more peace, and more patience. For a Spirit-led life becomes a Christian-like life. May all of us yearn to walk with God on our front and us at the back closely, securely, and confidently.

“If there is anything that we cannot change, it is change.” Change can only result into two. Either a change for the better or change for the worst! Of course all of us want a change for the better and it will always boil down to how we drive the ministry entrusted to us by God.

Today, we praise and thank the Lord for this opportunity that He gave to our Church Ministry Team. It is our prayer that God will continue to help us for growth in all aspects, respect one another, be united, and to always be driven to do the works of the Lord with love.

It was a blessing to be part of this fellowship. We praise and thank the Lord for everything that He has done and for all that He’s going to do! May God bless our lecturers, the district ministry team, and all the churches of ZamBas District from Zone 1 to Zone 6! May God bless us all!

Our fellowship with Jesus Christ is not just a one-time event, it should be a lifetime closer walk with Him. Today, we praise and thank the Lord for the opportunity that He gave to us to be reminded of how we ought to walk with Him.

First, it demands a continual abiding in Christ. Our intimacy in the Lord will never be built if we do it only when we want to or only when we feel that we are in the moment. For we can only build our intimacy in Jesus if we become responsible enough to take the first step to abide in Him. And as we abide in Him, it must be continuous, constant, and consciously depending on God.

Second, a closer walk with Jesus depends completely in Him. Apart from Him we can do nothing. It requires a partnership, a commitment, and a collaboration between us and Jesus. We may look spiritually alive but maybe deep inside we are spiritually dead. For our human abilities may produce different activities but it is only God who makes it possible for us to have spiritual victories! Yes! We can easily impress people, but it is so hard to please the Lord if we still depend on ourselves.

Third, a closer walk with Jesus display the fruit of Christ. We bear much fruit if we abide in Him. The more that we draw closer in Jesus, the more He becomes visible in our lives. All the evidence of abiding in Christ will be visible if we become intimate inn our fellowship with our Creator and all the more that Christ characters will be displayed in us.

Perhaps these days we have been busy serving God not knowing that we have neglected the importance of our intimacy with Jesus. Perhaps our fruits have diminished because our communication with Christ already vanished. Walking with God is not about working harder, but about walking with God closer. Therefore, today’s message calls every believer of God to focus in our daily fellowship with Jesus. To not take lightly of our quiet time with God. We must make time to date ourselves with the Lord through His word and communicate with Him through prayer. Pause, pray, then play! Through this, we can all please the Lord!

Today, we also remembered Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death. What He did to us at the calvary to pay the penalty of our sins. He demonstrate His love for us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. All because of His amazing grace! What an unending, undenied, and unconditional love Jesus has for us! Praise be to the King of kings and the Lord of lords! The King of glory, King of all! 🙌

Blessed beyond measure! Hilltop Community Christian Fellowship located at Lusayan, Sipawa, Sirawai, Zamboanga Del Norte celebrated its 1st Church Anniversary last Sunday! We praise and thank the Lord for the extension of His ministry in this community. We praise Him for His sustenance , strength, and for the sufficiency of His grace to make this ministry thrive for a year now! We give God the glory for everything that He has done and for all that He plans to do for the growth of this church! Please continue to pray for this ministry. Then, now, and always! God has been, God is, and God will always be faithful for this ministry! We declare blessings upon blessings that overflow for the glory of God!

While sometimes our eyes looks only at the problem, God looks at us. God sees all of us. He sees all our pain, struggles, and He sees our emptiness. Last Sunday, we praise and thank the Lord for reminding all of us that He is El Roi.

God sees what nobody else sees. He sees the burden we carry behind our smiles, He sees the ministry struggles, financial pressure, and even the secret disappointments that we carry. He sees our emptiness. Yet, He wants to see us in our present situation before He changes us. We must acknowledge our emptiness before the Lord because it is only through Him that our emptiness can be filled.

Sometimes God will take us to the deepest part of our lives, to make us realize that we need Him. Just like Peter, He used an empty person and Jesus was the only one who pushed him, encouraged him, and supported him. And so he cast down his net, trusting that Jesus will be true to His word. Peter believed Jesus’ word, and lo and behold it was indeed true!

Sometimes we try to live our lives on our own, we try to reach our success on our own, we try to do the ministry on our own, and sometimes we want to stop doing the ministry and living our dreams because we don’t see any good results. But just like Peter, he said to Jesus, “At thy word, I will let down the net.” Jesus in, Peter out! It is all about obedience. If we want blessings, we need to allow God to move in our lives.

God is calling us for deeper faith, trust, and dependence on God. Let’s surrender our lives to God, allow Him to move and take control of our lives and He will use us as a vessel of His blessings. For we can only experience a life that is abundant if we obey His instructions. Let God use our emptiness to demonstrate His great power. May we all step forward and move deeper for God.
