WHAT ARE DAYS OF OBLIGATION?
AND WHAT DOES THE CHURCH EXPECT FROM US?
โSome days are so spiritually important that the Church asks Catholics not merely to remember them, but to participate fully in them.โ
Many Catholics are familiar with Sunday Mass obligations, but fewer people clearly understand what the Church means by:
* Holy Days of Obligation
or
* Days of Obligation
Some Catholics hear announcements like:
โTomorrow is a Holy Day of Obligationโ
yet still wonder:
* What exactly does that mean?
* Is attending Mass compulsory?
* Why does the Church make certain days obligatory?

The truth is that Holy Days of Obligation are not meant to be burdens placed upon Catholics.
