Protecting God’s creation starts with saying no to mining ❗️

DEFEND LAND, DEFEND LIFE

“I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land.” (Jeremiah 2:7)

The Council of Bishops of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) is extremely worried and morally outraged about the violent dispersal and ongoing harassment of communities in Dupax del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya, who are protecting their land, livelihoods, and ancestral domains from the destructive actions of Woogle Mining Corporation, which appears to be supported by state forces.

This incident reflects a broader national pattern of environmental destruction, human rights abuses, and corporate exploitation affecting peasants and Indigenous Peoples. As a Church committed to the Gospel of justice, we reaffirm that the struggle of the people of Dupax del Norte is a moral and spiritual issue. Violence against communities protecting their land violates their God-given dignity and contradicts God’s will for abundant life.

The Church condemns destructive large-scale mining and development aggressions that destroy ecosystems, poison waterways, displace communities, and worsen poverty. We are alarmed by the DENR’s continued support for extractive and corporate ventures that sacrifice people and the environment for the sake of profit.

The UCCP reiterates its long-standing opposition to large-scale, foreign-dominated mining and renews its call to repeal the Mining Act of 1995. We uphold Indigenous Peoples’ rights to their ancestral lands and to genuine Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.

In faithfulness to the Gospel, we call for the immediate stoppage of Woogle Mining’s operations, an independent investigation into the violence, accountability of responsible state agencies, protection for environmental defenders, and the pursuit of people-centered, ecologically just alternatives.

The Church will not be silent. We stand in solidarity with the people of Dupax del Norte and all communities defending land, life, and dignity.

Land is life. To defend land is to defend life.

CYF VILLAVICIOSA wants to take a moment to say a huge thank you to each of our Pastors, Speakers, and NAC CYF Officers who shared with us during this year’s summer youth camp.

Your messages meant more than you know. You didn’t just speak! you invested in us, encouraged us, and pointed us to Jesus in such a real and powerful way. Some of your words hit home, some challenged us, and some reminded us of things we needed to hear.

Thank you for giving your time, your heart, and your prayers. We saw your passion for God and your love to us CYF’s, and it inspired us. We’re genuinely grateful for all you poured into us during this activity.

God bless you and thank you again, from all of us.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to UCCP LAMAO for graciously hosting us during the Summer Youth Camp. Your warm hospitality, support, and generosity made our experience truly meaningful and unforgettable.

Thank you for always opening your doors and hearts to us, for providing a safe and welcoming space, and for being part of the spiritual journey and growth of the youth. May God continue to bless your church and community with strength, unity, and overflowing grace. Hanggang sa muli!

This afternoon, a devastating fire ravaged Brgy. Nalbuan, Baay, Abra, leaving some of our Church members including the Family of Ptr. Jansen Magayam (UCCP Nalbuan Admin Pastor) & Neferty B. Dimas (UCCP Nalbuan CYF president) with nothing, and have tragically lost everything in this merciless blaze.

As one Family of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, we implore you to join us in supporting their families during this dire time. Your kindness, no matter how small, can make a significant impact in helping them rebuild their lives from scratch.
