Title: “He is Risen! The Power and Promise of the Resurrection”
Text: Matthew 28:1–10

“He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” — Matthew 28:6 (NKJV)

Introduction

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith. It is not merely an event in history—it is the foundation of our hope, the proof of God’s power, and the promise of eternal life.

In a world filled with death, suffering, and despair, the resurrection shouts to us that death is not the end. God has the final word—and that word is life!

I. The Reality of the Resurrection

“He is not here; for He is risen…” (v. 6)

The resurrection is a historical fact, witnessed by Mary Magdalene, the other Mary, the disciples, and more than 500 people (1 Corinthians 15:6). The tomb was empty—not because the body was stolen, but because Jesus had risen, just as He said.

The stone was rolled away, not so Jesus could get out—but so we could see in.

The angel didn’t bring Jesus out; God raised Him with His own power.

This shows that God always keeps His promises.

II. The Power of the Resurrection

Romans 8:11 says, “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies.”

The resurrection demonstrates:

Power over sin – Sin could not hold Him.

Power over death – The grave could not keep Him.

Power over the enemy – Satan is a defeated foe.

And that same power lives in us through the Holy Spirit! Whatever is dead in your life—faith, hope, peace—God has the power to resurrect it.

III. The Promise of the Resurrection

John 11:25 – “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”

Because Jesus lives:

We have forgiveness (1 Corinthians 15:17).

We have hope beyond the grave.

We have a mission to proclaim the Good News.

When Jesus rose, He didn’t stay in the tomb, and He didn’t stay in hiding. He went to meet His disciples, comfort them, and commission them. Likewise, we are not just saved to sit—we are saved to go and tell.

IV. The Response to the Resurrection

Matthew 28:8 – “So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.”

The women responded with:

Fear – a holy reverence.

Joy – overwhelming gladness.

Obedience – they ran to tell others.

Our response should be the same. We must:

Rejoice in the victory of Christ.

Live with boldness and purpose.

Share the message of the resurrection with others.

Conclusion

The resurrection is not just a past event—it is a present reality and a future hope.

He is risen—so we can rise with Him!
He lives—so we can live with purpose!
He reigns—so we can walk in victory!

Let us celebrate not just on Easter Sunday, but every day, that the tomb is empty and our Savior lives!
