Building stronger bonds in faith and service๐Ÿค

The SJBP Volunteer Catechists together with the PPC and BPC Officers gathered for a meaningful Team Building activity filled with joy, unity, laughter, and reflection. ๐Ÿค

More than games and activities, this day reminded us that we are one community called to serve God and His people with one heart and one mission. As we continue our journey in ministry, may we remain united in faith, strengthened in friendship, and inspired to become instruments of Christโ€™s love and service.

โ€œAlone we can do so little; together we can do so much.โ€ โœจ

THE SPIRITUAL IMPORTANCE OF THE SACRISTY
WHAT IT IS, AND WHY IT MUST BE RESPECTED
โ€œBefore the Mass begins, something sacred has already started.โ€

Many Catholics focus on the altar,
the readings,
the Eucharist,

But very few think about the place where everything is first prepared:
The Sacristy.
What happens there may be hidden from the congregation,
but it is deeply spiritual and essential to the life of the Church.

And this is where many people miss it.

1. WHAT IS THE SACRISTY?
The Sacristy is not just a storage room, It is a sacred preparation space where priests, servers, and ministers get ready before entering the altar. It is where vestments are kept, sacred vessels are arranged, and everything needed for the Mass is carefully prepared.

In many ways, the Sacristy is like a โ€œbackstage of heavenโ€™s liturgyโ€, but with reverence, not casualness.
Because what happens there prepares what will happen on the altar.

2. WHY THE SACRISTY IS SPIRITUALLY IMPORTANT
The Sacristy is a place of silence, focus, and interior preparation.
Before stepping into the sanctuary, the priest recollects himself. He prepares not just physically, but spiritually, for the sacred duty ahead.
It reminds us that the Mass is not something we rush into, It is something we prepare our souls for

Reverence begins before the first sign of the Cross.

3. WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SACRISTY
Everything used at the altar passes through the Sacristy.
Vestments are worn with intention.
Chalices and sacred vessels are arranged with care.
Liturgical books are prepared in order.

There are also traditional prayers said by priests before Mass, quiet moments where they entrust themselves to God.

Nothing there is random,
Everything is ordered toward worship

4. WHY THE SACRISTY MUST BE RESPECTED
This is where a serious problem exists today.
Some people treat the Sacristy like:
* A meeting point
* A discussion area
* A casual passageway
But the Church expects something very different.

The Sacristy should be treated with:
* Silence
* Respect
* Reverence
Because it is connected directly to the sacred action of the Mass.
If we lose reverence in preparation, we weaken reverence in worship.

5. WHAT THE CHURCH EXPECTS
While the General Instruction of the Roman Missal emphasizes order and proper preparation for the liturgy, the spirit behind it is clear:
Everything that leads to the Mass must reflect dignity and sacredness

This includes how we behave in and around the Sacristy.
It is not about rules alone, It is about understanding what we are approaching

IN SUMMARY: A SACRED PLACE BEFORE A SACRED ACTION
The Sacristy may not be seen,
But it is deeply connected to what we experience at Mass.

It is a place of:
Silence
Preparation
Reverence
And it teaches us something powerful:
If we prepare well, we worship well

Today, reflect:
โ€œDo I approach the things of God with preparation or with haste?โ€

โ€œThe way you prepare for God, reveals how much you value Him.โ€

If this opened your eyes, share it with someone who serves in the Church and tell us -have you ever been inside the Sacristy?

Bishop Roberto Mallari on the Eucharistic Celebration and Graduation Ceremony of Volunteer Catechists today 17th of April, 2026, challenged the 500 volunteer catechists of the Diocese of Tarlac to be bold โ€œsoldiers of faithโ€ in a world often indifferent or hostile to the Gospel.

Invoking the spirit of Saint Sebastian, the Bishop urged them to meet every trial with bravery instead of retreat.

โ€œSana kapag may pagsubok, wag kayong tatalikod,โ€ (When trials come, do not turn your back) he exhorted, emphasizing that their joy and perseverance in service are the most powerful proofs of Christโ€™s love.

17/04/2026

Reflecting on the Gospel of the multiplication of the five loaves and two fish, Bishop Mallari emphasized that God does not require grand gestures to perform miracles.
