"The Church salutes her as Lady and Queen of Angels and of Saints, of Patriarchs and Prophets, of Apostles and Martyrs, of Confessors and Virgins; she proclaims her Queen of Heaven and Earth, most glorious and worthy Queen of the Universe." - Ven. Pope Pius XII (Bendito Seja, 13 May 1964)

Today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us implore the maternal protection and powerful intercession of Our Lady, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, that we too may be faithful to her Son and be worthy of God’s salvation.

Traditionally, 22 August was instituted as the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of Peace and of the World, pray for us.

Let us all rejoice in the Lord,
as we celebrate the feast day in honor of the Virgin Mary,
at whose Assumption the Angels rejoice
and praise the Son of God.

Today, 15 August 2024, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII defined the Assumption of Mary to be a Dogma of Faith: “We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.”

When Pope Pius XII announced the intention to define the dogma, he saw several times the same phenomenon that occurred on 13 October 1917 at the end of Fatima’s apparitions—the Great Miracle of the Sun. He saw this while he was walking in the Vatican Gardens and spoke of it to few cardinals and close collaborators. In a handwritten, unpublished note from the Supreme Pontiff say: “I have seen the ‘miracle of the sun,’ this is the pure truth.”

The proclamation of the dogma was made exactly 33 years after the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima. Pius XII was the first pope to publicly acknowledge and encourage the devotion of Our Lady of Fatima and was the first pope to consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

With her Assumption into heaven, Mary becomes the first heir of Jesus’ eternal life and in her, we glimpse our final destiny for what God has done for her, God promises us too—eternal communion with the Father and all creations. May Our Lady of Fatima, who promised that her Immaculate Heart will be our refuge and way that leads to God, intercede for us and guide us in our work for our salvation and like her, be united with the Lord in heaven.

Mary, Assumed into heaven, pray for us.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.

“Go again to the Cova da Iria on the 13th and continue to say the Rosary everyday.” — Our Lady of Fatima, 19 August 1917

On the 13th of August 1917, the children were taken away and barred from going to the Cova da Iria to see the Lady. It was only days later on the 19th of August when Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta were able to speak to her in Valinhos. During the Fourth Apparition, they were told to come back to the Cova on the 13th and continue to pray the Rosary everyday and make sacrifices for sinner. Our Lady promised to perform a miracle in October for all to believe.

Let us heed to call of Our Lady and come to her National Shrine as we celebrate the 109th Anniversary of the Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. The Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Chaplet of the Angel of Peace will begin at 5:00 PM and followed by the Eucharistic Celebration to be presided by Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, D.D. of Caceres. The National Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Fatima will be brought out for procession afterwards.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.
Sts. Francisco and Jacinta Marto, pray for us.
Venerable Lucia dos Santos, pray for us.
